Sleeprider, is this something he should be concerned about or is the pressure low enough at a EPAP of 8 that it is not a concern.

That is a very good observation.  I frequently see this problem on Philips Respironics machines and this is not the only current thread where the problem may be key to effective therapy.  Philips CPAPs use CFlex and AFlex, and the BiPAPs use BiFlex.  All of it is vulnerable to mis-timing the user's respiration trigger and cycle, resulting in miscalculated inspiration/expiration time as well as increasing hypopnea and even CA events due to improperly timed changes of pressure within the Flex algorithm.  Flex "predicts" the timing of the start of inspiration (trigger), and expiration (cycle). When this is not timed correctly, it can result in more hypopnea, RERA and CA. Where this is a problem, I usually suggest turning Flex OFF or using no more than a setting of 1.

The Resmed machines faithfully follow the spontaneous efforts of the user, and we just don't see these problems as often. Combined with the more proactive pressure increases, it is common to see someone with borderline therapy results on a Philips get great results on a Resmed...Just my casual observation from viewing a lot of this.
