New to CPAP and teeth growth

New to CPAP and teeth growth
Hi Guys

probably more of a question for a dentist but seeing I don't have the time and money to waste on one right at this minute I thought id ask here

From day one using Cpap on my trial I had a range of pain in my teeth/gums that was initially put down as getting used to the pressure of the masks, I was trying a nasal mask and right where it sat on my lip under my nose I had a bit of pain, I was happy to live with it due to how much better I felt from the cpap but after my 2 week trial was up I swapped to a nasal pillow and the pain never went away, after a few weeks it ended up getting worse, eventually the pain started in my lower teeth/gums to the point they hurt all day even though I was using a nasal pillow so I knew it wasn't related to the pressure of the mask on my face

initially we thought it might of been bruxism or teeth grinding but after trialing a few things including gaurds I wasn't grinding my teeth at all

after a month or so I actually noticed my teeth had started to spread apart a little bit, its not much and not really noticeable so im not worried about it but its something that has intrigued me, has anyone else had jaw growth/changes since starting cpap? my specialist hasn't ever seen it before

the only thing that annoys me now is that there is a slight gap between my top and bottom front teeth, not noticeable to look at but I cant use my teeth to tear open packaging for instance cause the gap is larger then normal which is kind of annoying lol, not that I was a nail biter but if I wanted to I couldn't do that anymore sort of thing

anyone seen this before? I started the exact same day as I started cpap and pain/growth stopped after a few months but I thought id ask

27 years old at the time so should be old enough to not be seeing any natural growing I would of thought, never had braces or anything, my teeth have never been awesome but they were always good, never had a filling or anything etc

RE: New to CPAP and teeth growth
Have you seen your dentist and what was his opinion about what is happening to your teeth? My husband recently had a tooth extracted and was sent to a specialist to evaluate the possibility of a dental implant. I won't bore you with those details but the orthodontist did tell him he should push his tongue against the lower front teeth (where he had the tooth extracted) so that the remaining teeth would "move" by themselves to cover the space where the tooth was pulled. The specialist said it is often just as successful as braces given my husband's age which is 69.

You are lucky to never have a filling or anything. I wish you continued good dental health.

Any kind of jaw "growth" would be extremely concerning in an adult since that is absolutely not supposed to happen. The only trigger for that is a large amount of growth hormone and that indicates all sorts of really bad things. However, teeth shifting is not unusual in young adults. It can be caused by all sorts of things and is usually nothing to be concerned about. If it has calmed down I wouldn't worry about it too much.
