You need to complain to the doc on untreated CA and that the current therapy isn't working. Note down the symptoms and complaints that are still an issue, including the CA. You need to request a ResMed AirCurve 10 ASV to properly treat CA. I have the same machine, and it is notably better than the Respironics.

RE: New to Forum
What I'm seeing is 14 CA to 9 OA on the diagnostic, this tells me your centrals/CA on OSCAR is pre-existing. In this case they have not recognized the pre-existing CA condition, and it's a typical misdiagnosis as the laziness of the doc doesn't want to advocate and fight for proper treatment.

RE: New to Forum
You're welcome.
FWIW what you'll need to focus on is chronic fatigue and not being well rested, things of that sort and that the CA exist still in untreated above 5 AHI numbers. And mention the ResMed description of their ASV which was designed to treat CA, not avoid it, which you see the avoid game isn't working well.

RE: New to Forum
PS check out this piece of ResMed info. It states ASV and ASVAuto, same machine separate modes, it's used to treat CA.

RE: New to Forum
That is most of what I wanted to see, that your central existed as a majority of your apnea BEFORE CPAP.
The other piece I'd like to see is the actual diagnosis. I expect it to be OSA which is wrong. It should be predominately Central/Mixed Apnea, it can state OSA, but not as the primary diagnosis. We see this ALL the time (ok not all, but frequently) and IMHO it is a great disservice to those who clearly have central or mixed apnea. 1. Request a change of diagnosis to something which makes Central/Mixed apnea the primary diagnosis, you don't 'qualify for an ASV without this. 2. Request a path forward that will treat Central apnea, treat, not avoid it. State that you have learned that in lieu of other respiratory issues, this is an ASV. 3. Request an ASV titration study in a lab. This will (currently) require some additional testing first, checking your LVEF (Left Ventrical Ejection Factor). If your LVEF is low you already know that you are suffering from some serious heart issues. Trust me, you are not. Justification: 1. your Diagnostic Sleep Study shows that the majority of your apnea in central. 2. your current therapy is failing and does not reduce your central nor does it reduce your symptoms (be specific) 3. your symptom list, itemized.

I agree with Gideon. He's added more info than mine. We can discuss the LVEF test called echocardiogram if you want details. The test is very easy.

RE: New to Forum
Nearly all patients are diagnosed with obstructive apnea, even if the clear results are central or complex apnea. You have complex apnea and are misdiagnosed. While they hope you can settle for CPAP and make the insurance happy, that's not going to happen. Complain to the doc. Advise above is right on.

RE: New to Forum
I finally was able to meet with the Lung Specialists in Las Vegas, the Doctors were booked so I met with a PA. I went over my history and gave her my original Sleep Study and my SD card. She took one look at my Sleep Study and stated "you were mis-diagnosed", you have mostly Central Apenas and the Bipap that you have will not work. She ordered another Sleep Study which I am currently waiting on. The PA was awesome!
Thanks to the people on this board, I now have hope that I will get several good night sleeps in the near future. You guys nailed the problem and I can't tell you how valuable your input has been. More good news (I hope) on the way, Thanks again, Richard Faircloth

We can only fight back one person at a time, but keep in mind how valuable your experience is to the many others that are also struggling with central or complex apnea, and yet denied the right therapy. Best of luck and don't hesitate to let us know how we can help.
