New to forum and to data analysis

RE: New to forum and to data analysis
Well we met with a durable medical equipment company. We thought we were meeting a sleep doctor. The decision has already been made - they gave her a ResMed Airsense 10 autoset to use. Gave us the instructions. Indicated that there was no need for particular settings because it was autoset. But we did get the understanding that the machine sends the data to Resmed which then is available on their website for us and the doctors. I will be posting new questions I believe unless I find the answers via search.

So sorry you didn't get to talk with a doctor. Is there a way to arrange that separately? Yes, if the wireless capability is turned on, the data can go to ResMed. The data you would get would be pretty limited compared to what you get with Oscar. So I'd recommend continuing to use an SD card and downloading to Oscar.

I did not get an SD card with the machine (said I don't need one because of the wireless). I can put one in as there is a reader on the machine. Will it record on SD as well as send to wireless. I noted in the manual that the send does not happen until the session has ended. Therefore it must be storing someplace in the machine (RAM). But will it write there and to the SD card both? We will be searching for a pulmonary specialist and see if we can get a visit. We do want someone to be looking at the data. Of course this site so far appears to be very intelligent on the matter.

They gave you a setting that is wide open... 4 is the lowest a machine can go and 20 is the most pressure it will be able to give. Pardon my language but that is total crap. You will need to change the settings. Go to the manuals at the top of the site and download the manual for your machine. It will tell you how you can change your settings. The Gurus on this site will help you by looking at the OSCAR data from tonight. If you do that through the Dr. it will take weeks or months to get dialed in and by that time many people quit because they are not getting any better. You will get better here quicker!!

Yes, it is the same settings as what my wife got for the Resmed S9. I'll get data and Oscar reports. I will have to comply with Medicare rules as this is a rental up front. We will check further on that. It might just be cheaper to buy the APAP myself but I would like the insurance to pay for the new masks and hoses , etc. Time will tell as this proceeds. Thanks for the input.

Yes, the machine will write data to both the SD card and send a more limited amount of data to ResMed over the cell connection.  Any SD card between 2GB and 32GB will be fine.  Don't get a larger one as the card must be formatted as FAT32 which Windows limits to 32GB.

The SD card must be in the machine overnight as data is written to it periodically as the machine is running. If you don't put the SD card in the machine until morning, all you get is extremely limited data that will not help you evaluate efficacy of your therapy.

It's too bad they didn't give you the "for her" model.  It's the same price and it has an extra algorithm "for her".  If you do go for an outright purchase you might want to think about moving up.

You got a good machine but if you are looking for help from the Dr - forget it. The only information he will look at is hours used (has tone more than 4 daily) and your total events is less than 5. If you want good therapy look here for it.

Yes, I'm getting that feeling. My wife's primary doctor who started us with a new machine does not really do any analysis either. It might be good to just stay with her as she will do the eval in 30+ days and go with whatever I come up with as far as any changes in settings. Pulling in a pulmonary doctor may just complicate making changes.
I agree this site is wonderful and a lot of talented folks here.

We tried changing the min from 4 to 7, but that did not work out. But now from what I read maybe the change will be to add RAMP with a min of 4 and use the auto function of this new machine. We would set the regular min to 7 and also change the epr to 1 instead of the current 3 to help reduce the CA's. Lots of changes all at once. First we will see what the settings are and step into it.

We are going out of town for a couple of nights so we won't be even turning on this new machine until Friday or Saturday. I'll certainly open up a new thread with some data. I have the clinical manual and know how to change settings. I do need to pick up an SD card.

I did notice in the Clinical manual that it says All of the AIRSense machines come with an SD card already loaded in the machine. I checked and it is not there. Maybe the manual is out of date or ?

Most machines supplied now don't have SD cards.
