New to forum
Hi I am new to this forum. I was recently diagnosed with apnea AHI 59. Four days ago, I got my S9 AutoSet™ CPAP Machine, climate hose and Quattro FX for Her Full Face Mask and mask liners. With the cpap machine, my AHI has ranged from 4.5-7. Finally, for the past two mornings, I did NOT wake up with a headache. I am still tired in the morning but today I seem to have a bit more energy. How long does it take to start to really feel human?

Roxy - welcome to the forum
Every one respond different to the treatment. Some Not many might feel better straight away but for the majority of folk ...the improvement can be gradual over a period of time. Glad to see that you,re using a mask liner which can make wearing the full face mask more comfortable. Finding the right mask is the most important together with figuring what humidity setting works best for you. Good luck on your journey

RE: New to forum
It can take a while. Some people feel better immediately. Others can take several months. Google 'sleep debt'.
And you've only had it for 4 days. There's plenty of time left. Keep using it. Are you able to wear the mask all night? Consider downloading either ResScan or SleepyHead software so you can track your data. http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Forum-P...-and-Links

RE: New to forum
I have been keeping the mask on for about 7 hours a night. I already have sleepyhead software to monitor things. Right now there is a remote transmitter on the machine which sends data to the sleep doctor and dme. I have an appointment with the sleep doctor in a week when she will review the data and machine settings. Right now the cpap is set to 14.20. When I look at the data, my machine is between 14.5-16 most of the time.

Welcome to the forum Roxy! Sound like you are doing pretty good already. I found after a month or so, I didn't even think of my mask..it just becomes so automatic.

(08-29-2012, 07:13 PM)Roxy Wrote: How long does it take to start to really feel human? It can take up to six months to see results. A lot of people can't tolerate CPAP therapy and have trouble sleeping with the mask on. Some people have other problems and just can't seem to adjust to it. You are off to a good start. You're lucky that you are able to sleep with it. You'll likely start seeing positive results within a week or two. Just keep on wearing the mask whenever you sleep. Even if you're just taking a nap. Our bodies had to adapt to sleeping with apnea, and it takes us a while to un-adapt. The more you wear the mask, the faster it happens. I've been on CPAP therapy for almost ten months now and the mask and the air pressure now feel natural to me. I used to swallow the air being pumped into my face and wake up with gas pains. I've come a long way and you will too.

RE: New to forum
I definitely think about the mask now. I find that I wake for a few seconds several times a night. even though sleepyheads shows low mask leakage, I wake and feel that my mask is not feeling right
