RE: ALL New Members
Brand new member here; I just joined the forum tonight.  Thank you for greeting us newbies!

I really need a forum like this -- as I'm sure others brand new to apnea treatment are.  I've already used the "Search" function several times to get helpful information, as I like to research issues as much as possible to avoid repetitious posting as I know happens on these type of forums.  I do hope to become a regular poster though.

I'm only on day 4 of my BIPAP therapy and am adjusting pretty well.  I dove right into it with my nasal pillows and humidifier.  Have a chin strap coming in the mail because although my MyAir Web score was 72, I lost all 20 of the "leakage" points.  I check the mask readout on the ResMed AirCurve before sleeping and get a smile face, so apparently it's mouth-breathing.  The respiratory therapist will try the chin strap first, if that fails then will go to a full mask.

Thanks again!   like

It's nice to know that my efforts are not in vain, and some of you do read them.Smile

There are a few of you who did not receive one as you did not want to receive a PM , just an email or neither. I don't send them out to email only members. I like to keep my email private, if you know what I mean?

I also want to reassure all that the link to the survey is a safe link and won't cause problems.

Anyway, welcome aboard and I hope you get as much help and advice as I have received in the past.

I will continue my duties as long as the response is there.

Thanksh

Hi, pjmarengo, welcome to the family fun forum!  Glad you found your way here (and curious how you did).  I hope that the chin strap works for you, and I'd like to suggest that a clerical er… cervical collar is often effective for preventing leaks through the mouth – that might save you from having to resort to a full-face mask.

Edit: Just noticed in your profile you went to 95% O₂ saturation via BiPAP – but you're also on supplemental O₂.  I had to have a second sleep study/titration because the PAP resolved my OAs but my O₂ was 80% (or less) for over 100 minutes, even on the BPAP.  IOW, if the BPAP is resolving your O₂ sat, why do you need supplemental O₂?  (Jus' curious)

Hi Shaun,

I probably didn't make it clear enough in my profile.   My blood oxygen level went to 95% with a combination of the BIPAP and 2 LPM of supplemental oxygen for which I use an oxygen concentrator.  A higher concentration of O2 alone wasn't doing it because my problem was that my breathing was shallow and I wasn't exhaling or inhaling enough when sleeping.  I had frequent headaches, always felt tired when awake and had trouble thinking clearly.  As soon as the BIPAP was added a few days ago it made a dramatic difference in my blood O2 saturation.  I expect it to take a few weeks for my body to adjust and I'm very hopeful that all these symptoms will clear up now.

There is a "T" adapter that I got from my DME Oxygen provider.  One end inserts into the airflow output on my BIPAP and my breathing hose connects to the other end  On top is a connector for my oxygen tubing.  So I'm basically breathing the oxygen-enriched air at higher pressures from the BIPAP.

Note:  I found that I can't insert the picture or the link to it because I'm a newbie and have to have at least 4 posts before I can do that.   Dont-know  This is #2.

RE: ALL New Members
Not a prob, lots of folk here have supplemental oxygen and know how it feeds into your airflow.

Frankly, I was sad that the BPAP didn't work for me because I was excited to explore the features and capability, and I hated the idea of having to rely on a concentrator.

I'm curious what O₂ concentrator you've got.  Mine is a Invacare Perfecto V, which is noisy, hot, and screeches like a banshee when it starts.  Otherwise, it seems mediocre. Thinking-about  Note: replying to this post will put you over the threshold and you'll be able to post your PAP porn (except commercial links)!   Laugh-a-lot

My O₂ concentrator is a Phillips Respironics.  I've read that many people complain that it's loud but to me it's not bad; it's just kind of  like white noise now because I'm so used to it.  It's kind of big and relatively heavy, but it does have a handle and wheels and I've taken it on train trips with me from New England to Florida.

I only need the oxygen when I'm sleeping, and I'm kind of hoping that I'll be able to stop using it if the BIPAP therapy is effective.  The results of the sleep study titration I had three weeks ago were a recommendation that I use the BPAP along with half the oxygen I was using before.

BTW, If this post puts me over the threshold, I'll be able to upload my own profile avatar after this.   Grin

Sounds like mine.  And the noise of it running doesn't bother me – sometimes I wake up and have to strain to hear its groaning and thumping sounds.

Like you, I only need it while asleep, but Bi-level PAP didn't work for me.  I hope that it will for you, getting rid of the beast would be sweet.  And I can't imagine the difficulty of lugging yours through stations and up and down train aisles!

Well, motor-mouth, you've gone over four… where's that avatar?   Dielaughing
