Seven OAs in under 4 minutes while awake

Seven OAs in under 4 minutes while awake
This morning OSCAR shows that I had 7 obstructive apneas in a 4 minute period right after turning the machine on last night.  I take 15-20 minutes to fall asleep, so I was definitely awake during these "events" but unaware of them.  What did I do wrong to make this happen?

You didn't do anything wrong. When we are awake, our breathing patterns are very erratic. Breathing only become rhythmic after we fall asleep and another part of the brain takes over our breathing response.

Thanks Red.  I know this is true but was astounded because this hasn't happened before.

I'm able to tell from OSCAR when I fell asleep because my resp rate goes up to around 20 while asleep.
