Oh No!! Now what should I do???
I just had a phone call from the "Windows department!" "Hello," says this lady, "I'm calling from the windows department and you have a serious problem with your computer." "OH NO! What could be wrong?" says I. "Do you have a computer?" "Well, you called me and said you found something seriously wrong with it, so don't you know if I have a computer?" "Is it turned on?" "YES!!! SHOULD I UNPLUG IT RIGHT AWAY?" "No No... Just do what I tell........ Just a minute." Now a man comes on the line because I guess she wasn't able to understand me all that well..... She had a really really strange accent. "Do you have icon on your computer?" "I have lots of them... Should I delete them?" "No no... Do you have icon that says 'My computer?" "Yes, it's my computer I bought it! Should I unplug it now? I'm frightened!!"

Line goes dead............ Now I don't know what to do. Does anyone have the phone number of the "Windows Department?"

Direct line to Bill Gates. Sometimes his weird nephew Durwood answers, so it's hit and miss...

I like how you responded retired_guy! You have a great sense of humor. Me? When I got that same phone call I said, "I have an Apple, not a Window!" Same result, but not as much fun as you had.

Since I am one of the top Windows (and other systems) troubleshooters in the world (literally), I too like to play along when there is sufficient time.

It's pretty cool to get them all excited about how stupid and gullible I am -- they think they have a real fish on the line....

So............. You're the Windows Department? Hmmm. What's your phone number? Someone in your department told me something awful is wrong with my computer, but they didn't specify which of my 6 machines is the one that has something awful about it.

It's the one with all your personal data, bank account numbers and credit card numbers on it. You'd better give them all that info or else your computer might blow up. Shock

RE: Oh No!! Now what should I do???
When I used to do tech support for a tax program, I had one of those yoyo's call in on our inner circle line. It had only one prompt and was manned by our Tier 3 folks. Anyway, it was slow so I strung the guy along for a good 20 minutes before dropping the Mac bomb on him. My supervisor was monitoring the call and I have never seen him laugh so hard. I used to have a copy of the call, but lost it in a hard drive crash.

RE: Oh No!! Now what should I do???
As funny as this may sound... I sort of fix and repair these stupid things and for the life of me I can't figure out why I do it!!! Anyway... Something similar happened not to long ago to my landlord's wife. Got a frantic cellphone call and she said that someone claiming they were from "Windows" was on the landline and said she had a serious problem with her computer. During this conversation, with her, she then stated that they had taken control of her computer and what should she do. I told her to "IMEDIATELY" unplug her computer and hang up!!! Nobody from someplace should ever be allowed to "take over" your computer. Especially if they called you. You are only asking for big, big, really BIG problems.

NOTHING ON THE INTERNET IS FREE!!! NOTHING!!!!! So don't fall for the B.S. that pops up on your screen!!!!

I took my mother's computer away for 3 weeks... She has since learned her lesson!!!

That's another story and if you want to know the details on how I "grounded" my mom from the computer... just ask, I will be happy to share!
