RE: Old hose-heads: How Often?
I had a consult with a sleep doc before my home study, another consult after 6 weeks on the hose, and will have a 3rd next month. I think my insurance actually requires these visits.... meanwhile my DME has been charging my insurance $190 a month for my S9 Autoset + humidifier. seriously - $150 for the PAP and $40 for humidifier every month!!! (plus additional crazy amounts for supplies...) It has been 8 months now, so it looks like they will actually do this for a full year! There is no one at the Insurance that seems to care about this at all!

Tongue Suck Technique for prevention of mouth breathing:
  • Place your tongue behind your front teeth on the roof of your mouth
  • let your tongue fill the space between the upper molars
  • gently suck to form a light vacuum

Practising during the day can help you to keep it at night

Well the people at my DME have followed up with me several time since I started. Tomorrow they are bringing out a new oxygen generator which the Blue Cross municipal plan will pay for 100%.

The DME person who visited me last week had already checked my data to see I was doing alright before she came. She was impressed when I showed her how I can import my data into Sleepyhead using a wifi capable SD card.

I see my GP monthly as I have diabetes as well as apnea and he is always concerned with how I am doing with both.

I see mine every 6 months, more if needed for ENT issues. Just saw him in May and will see him again in November. Anytime I see him, I bring in my report from SleepyHead.

The AutoSet is my real doctor

I've got all the info at my fingertips
No need to see other ones, for now at least

April 2008 was my last contact with a sleep specialist or clinic. My GP continues to write prescription updates as requested.

PollCat, doing the poll thing. How quaint!

I had a used machine for a year before I saw a sleep specialist. He was very nice but unnecessary, except to get the new machine.

I've had the machine for about a year, and will never go through insurance again. My time is worth more than saving a couple of hundred dollars.

The next time I buy a machine, I'll be using the insurance card that says "Visa" on it, and buying online.

I had to get the ok from a sleep dr. every year to keep my license to drive a bus.
This year I retired so won't be going back unless I have a problem.

I had to call in April of this year for an appointment in September of the same year. By his own admission to me at my last appointment, he said "I am busier than I want to be." He is very good at listening to any of my concerns regarding cpap therapy and he doesn't seem to practice "assembly line medicine" so often seen in other departments of medicine. I actually look forward to my appointment with him and his nurse.

I wonder why. I don't have to but I am not on straight medicare.

RE: Old hose-heads: How Often?
I got a five year warranty and five years' worth of free consultations when I bought my VPAP Adapt, so after a year they asked me to come in and see how things were going. I was quite impressed that the RT went back through the ResScan record just about every day for the year, noted a few anomalies and gave me some genuinely helpful suggestions. She was also interested in my Sleepyhead outputs (she'd heard of it but never seen it) and my Pad-a-cheek liner. She was settling in for a good long natter but I had to get back to work. Wink
