Online hiatus

I have just been on a 5 day forced hiatus caused by my lovely ISP. Hopefully that will not happen again soon.

Best Regards,

Not their fault... If there's no wind, how do you expect smoke signals to work anyhow?

Bingo!!

Hi PaytonA,
Until recently, we were ATT customers where we live - for most of the forty years we have lived here. For the last decade or so, we had 2 landlines and ADSL service for internet. Then ATT invented their Uverse product and started pushing to get rid of their DSL customers. I can't express how obnoxious these people were about switching. Since some of my clients have had direct (bad) experience with Uverse, I had long ago decided that an ATT Uverse person would only set foot in my house by walking in over my dead body. Anyway, last December, they jacked up the DSL charge again, and responded with no useful alternatives when I called. So I looked around, and ended up replacing ALL my ATT services with Time-Warner Cable. I now have 3 times the internet bandwidth up and down, plus 2 VOIP phone lines both w/ unlimited long distance and digital voicemail, for about half what ATT was charging. And since the phones are digital, I can use a service called NoMoRobo, which filters out LOTS of the unwanted solicitation calls, and works really well. AT&T refuses to cooperate with the NoMoRobo people.

My recommendation: review your options again, check to see what competing providers are offering. You might be able to do MUCH better than Uverse.

Good luck.

We had ATT DSL back when we l ived in northwest Indiana. Man, what pain when it comes to customer service. The service itself was mediocre, but when something went wrong, it was a horrible ordeal to get stuff repaired. I finally got the personal cell phone number of the local guy that was in charge of all ATT repairs in our area, and he told me to call him if customer service doesn't resolve an issue in 48 hours. I made the call once to him and he got a truck out to the house within one hour and repairs made within 2 hours.

But, I remember spending long, long hours and hours on the phone (usually on hold) with ATT when problems occured.

PaytonA, also, i'm moving this thread to the Off-Topic forum since it's not sleep apnea related.
