I think soon coming Oscar 1.1.0 does installation better.

You can try to make the desired directories with mkdir command. And try installation again.

I had /opt/OSCAR

and there Html and Translations subdirectories

OSCAR executable also and OSCAR.png (desktop icon).

And then I started Oscar with /opt/OSCAR command. It took data from my home directorys subdirectory.

I see two possibilities - to create the /opt/tempDir you must have root permissions, and (possibly, I'm not sure) /opt must exist.
also, the original deb package did not allow for any folder but Desktop - no internationalisation allowed.
Because it used the SUDO_USER variable, it had to be run as 'sudo dpkg -t filename.deb' from your user account, not from the root account.

I'm not sure why the ln failed if this was a new clean install, though.

I think those problems have been solved in the 1.1 release package, due out soon.

RE: Oscar installing on Ubuntu 18.04 - problem - please help
Thank you unidee and pholynyk,

Unfortunately I didn't make it and my OSCAR didn't work on Ubuntu 18.04. Now I installed Ubuntu 19.10 and get this:

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of oscar:
oscar depends on libqt5core5a (>> 5.9.0); however:
Package libqt5core5a is not installed.
oscar depends on libqt5serialport5; however:
Package libqt5serialport5 is not installed.
oscar depends on libqt5xml5; however:
Package libqt5xml5 is not installed.
oscar depends on libqt5network5; however:
Package libqt5network5 is not installed.
oscar depends on libqt5gui5; however:
Package libqt5gui5 is not installed.
oscar depends on libqt5widgets5; however:
Package libqt5widgets5 is not installed.
oscar depends on libqt5opengl5; however:
Package libqt5opengl5 is not installed.
oscar depends on libqt5printsupport5; however:
Package libqt5printsupport5 is not installed.

dpkg: error processing package oscar (--install):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Errors were encountered while processing:
oscar

I don't know what to do. Last time I just did what was in instruction:
http://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.php...and_Debian
and all went great.
Can you tell me what to do? Please.

Try running this command first:
sudo apt-get install gtkhash libb2-1 libqt5opengl5 libqt5serialport5 libqt5printsupport5 libqt5xml5

Here are the complete instructions I had posted another member:

Preform the following steps in the order listed:
  1. In a terminal window, type or copy: sudo apt-get install gtkhash libb2-1 libqt5opengl5 libqt5serialport5 libqt5printsupport5 libqt5xml5

  2. Press <ENTER>
  3. Type: sudo dpkg -i OSCAR Version# - the full filename.deb
  4. Press <ENTER>
  5. You will have to create a Quick Launch shortcut on your desktop.  If you are unfamiliar with this,
    1. Right-click anywhere on an open area of your desktop.
    2. The 5th option from the top is labeled, "+ Create a new launcher here. . .", select it.
    3. In the Command box either enter or navigate to the /usr/bin/oscar link
    4. Provide a name for the Quick Launcher, like "OSCAR".

I hope this may help.
