Our Pets
Since SS mentioned he has a dog and I know several others do, too, I thought I'd start a thread about the critters in our lives (and no, guys, this does not include your spouses! Too-funny )

RE: Our Pets
We have three dogs and two cats.

Joella - Rottweiler - 11yrs - she's my retired service dog. Getting gimpy but still tough enough to put the boys in their place! She's a little Rottie at 82lbs.
Sam - Catahoula mix - 5yrs - big, big boy. Thank god he did not grow into his feet! But, as big as he is, he's the biggest chicken. He's about 85lbs I guess.
Mike - Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix - 3yrs - Mike is in training to be my next service dog, when/if I ever get back into training him. He's kinda little (55lbs) but he has a big mouth to pick up big things. Smart little cuss. Not afraid of much. Attacks the vacuum cleaner and the lawn mowers. Jo does too so maybe it's a Rottie thing.

Annie Oakley and Sassafras are our two cats. I'm not much of a cat person. They let me live here.

I don't have a real camera (first time in, well, ever) but as soon as I get one, I'll set them up for a group photo. Used to do it a lot when they were sitting together at meal time.

Here's the crew (minus Annie)

RE: Our Pets
My wife and I sleep with two dogs. We have a Dachshund/German Shorthair mix that we call our Dachshund on steroids and we have a Minature Schnauzer. The Dachshund on steroids mother was the German Shorthair and his daddy was a Minature Dachshund. We also have a black cat and a small Parrot. The parrot talks but the cat doesn't. Outside we have a koi pond with five assorted butterfly koi. That is more than enough to care for.

RE: Our Pets
I hope to get a pond for my koi this summer. He keeps outgrowing his tanks! Right now he is about 12-14". Just a wee thing.

I'll trade cats with you. Sass won't shut up.

RE: Our Pets
i thought about starting a pet thread, so thanks for reading my mind and doing it. i'll get pictures up a little later after re-sizing.

just an FYI: if you want to check your house to see who is peeing and where, get a blacklight and check around with it. the pee places show up bright white. the easiest blacklight setup to make is to buy a short fluorescent light fixture maybe 18" or so that you would screw into a wall and plug into an outlet. then buy a blacklight that fits into it. don't screw it down, take it from room to room to check. it works good.

also if you must use peepee pads in the house, don't buy regular doggie pads in the pet section or in pet stores. go to medical supply places or discount stores like sams and buy adult bed pads. they are the same thing, but much cheaper and bigger.

RE: Our Pets
We have 3 dogs and 7 cats.

Here is a pic of the dogs. Desi (Blue harness) is defending his "Prize" from Connor while Desi's sister Lucy (Pink harness) sneaks in and does an end run.

Lucy and Desi are Chihuahua / Beagle mixes and Connor is a Border Collie / Australian Shepherd mix whose job it is to try to herd the other two.

The dogs seem to get along well with the cats. Here is a short YouTube I shot of Lucy and Desi playing with Pollux who is one of the cats.

For those who want a low-maintenence pet that doesn't pee much on your carpet, I suggest this:
