NEW breakthrough therapy for sleep apnea

NEW breakthrough therapy for sleep apnea
If you didn't see it today, the tv show 'The Doctors' gave us a gory preview of a throat operation and the placement of the new breakthrough device.

Googling 'Brian Weeks MD ENT' may get you some hits.

They implant a device that stimulates the tongue to move and open the airway.
Similar to the pacemaker technology. Only available to those that failed other therapy per their words.

Looking for comments from others.

The only "implant" that I get excited about is named "pizza."

These "breakthroughs" come up every few months - usually a variation on one that went before. Then they fade away and we never hear of them again. PAP therapy is proven, works well for most and is (relatively) cheap. It's also reversible - if it doesn't work for you there's no harm done.

I don't want anybody giving electric shocks to my tongue, thanks! Shock

Feel the same way, and the operation looked pretty messy/invasive. I'll go along with retired guy and order a pizza.

Actually feel like I was duped by the show 'The Doctors', don't tune into this kind of show very often but they presented this as a new option. Another forum has clued me into the fact there is absolutely nothing new about this, apparently been around for a while .... all hype for their sucker viewers. Thinking-aboutPerturbed

Sleep Doc I may or may not see again offers it.
This reminds me of a Bob n Tom bit about a device that takes over your voice and prevents saying stooopid stuff. Too-funny
I use my PAP machine nightly and I feel great!

Bob n Tom obviously didn't get this device, would kill the show Big Grin
really like their antics.
