PLEASE HELP! First night disaster.

So hang in there, and do read some of those success stories, because doing that should give you a bit of a boost emotionally.
Drywaller -Thanks so much for all that info.    Such an encouragement!  Taping probably would be scary for me because I have GERD.

And Dr.John?  ... gosh, I'd forgotten all about him - used to have that album back in the 60's.  Far out.  haha!

Yes, it doesn't sound like a safe approach in that case. BTW, I had occasional problems with reflux and frequent problems with acid stomach (I used to have to keep a bottle of calcium-carbonate tablets next to the bed and take one in the middle of the night), but going on CPAP therapy has eliminated both of those because of the new lack of CO2 buildup in the body. I'm not saying that it will always happen that way, because of course those things can have other causes that are more difficult to treat.

Other possible changes once you've been on steady CPAP for a little while ("steady" meaning 8 hours per night, every night, and it's much easier than it sounds at first!) include having dreaming (REM sleep) come back and a big reduction in nocturia events. I used to have to get up to pee several times per night, but recently that number has consistently been either zero or one. ISTR (am too lazy to look it up) that nocturia is more common with men than with women but it does happen with both.

If you have GERD, talk to your Dr about it, but in the meantime chew a Gaviscon or two before bed time. A CNP recommend it to me even though I was on a powerful H2 blocker to help with my inflammation at the joining of my esophagus and stomach.

Thank you mdhampton.   I'll keep the Gaviscon in mind.   My GI doc put me on Prilosec years ago, which works great especially if I don't eat anything past  6 pm.
