Patch cord for heated hose?

RE: Patch cord for heated hose?
I think you could lose more oxygen if you run it into the tank. There will be some backflow when you exhale, roughly equal to tidal volume. As you move the O2 port closer to the blower, a greater percentage will pushed back out through the air inlet and lost. As you move the port closer to the mask, more of the backflow will remain in the hose. Of course, you will always lose some due to the venting of the mask.

Can I convince you to add a pilot light to burn off the extra O2? Eat-popcorn

I was thinking about this, Roman candle nightlight thingy...

Maybe there is another solution.  How about using the original O2 adapter nearer the mask and add a hose/tubing cover?  Then you could zip up the O2 hose right along with the CPAP hose to keep things all tighty and tangle-free.  There are lots of hose covers to choose from.

Why not? I think that's the best hose cover image on that ResMed version yet. Probably adding it to wish list.

RE: Patch cord for heated hose?
There is no backflow from the mask into the tube. The intentional mask venting is always greater than your exhalation flow, so your exhale mixes with the incoming air and goes out the mask vents.
The only possible exception is when there is one of those experimental EE tubes which moves the exhaust port up to a foot away from the mask, but still six feet from the machine.
The point of having the O2 port at the machine is, I think, to promote better mixing of the O2. It certainly is mor conveniont than having that plastic O2 tee coming in a foot and a half from your face - assuming your mask has a shorty...

I'd agree with what pholynyk mentioned. Oxygen added at the machine end has the whole 6' hose to mix in. When my supplemental oxygen need due to COPD becomes a medical necessity, I plan on adding oxygen via the ResMed ClimateLine OXY heated hose for when asleep.

That is not true. Yes, the average flow through the vents is greater, but the peak exhalation flow easily overwhelms/exceeds the venting.

As an experiment, try putting on your mask with the elbow but no hose. Put the palm of your hand over the end of the elbow to block it. Give a quick puff to close the anti-asphyxiation valve, then continue exhaling through the vent. Yes, you can do it, but it takes a lot more effort than exhaling against the machine.

There is no NET backflow, but there is instantaneous backflow during peak exhalation.

Granted, peak expiratory flow is likely to be lower in someone who requires supplemental oxygen.
