Philips Respironcs Remstar BiPAP error code E48

Philips Respironcs Remstar BiPAP error code E48
I have an older Philips Respironics Remstar BiPAP machine that just threw an E48 code. It happened after a trip to New York and some jostling in my bag so I suspect something broke or came loose. This unit is well past the warranty period so I want to try to fix it myself. I am very handy and have access to the most sophisticated tools in an electronics lab. Does anyone have any experience tackling this error coder that could tell me the most likely causes and/or fixes?

Here are the error codes: http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...AP-machine
E-48 ERR_PV2_SENSOR_RAILED •Occluded or restricted pressure tube •Defective pressure sensor •Replace pressure tube •Replace Main PCA

This means a sensor has failed or been occluded or the main board has failed. Unless you can DIY, the machine is dead. You can locate new machines from our online supplier list, SecondWindCPAP Supplier #2, and Craigslist. Amazon currently is selling a new Dreamstation DSX700H11 BiPAP Auto for $720. You have choices if you are not going through insurance. If your profile is accurate and you are using CPAP pressure, you have many lower-price options for fixed or auto CPAP units.

My old Remstar Auto set a code saying it might have a bad main board.
I just unpluged the power supply, waited a minuet and plugged it back
in.  That seemed to clear the message and it was still working fine 10 weeks
later when I got my new machine. Then there is a fellow who repairs them sorry I don't recall his name.

It's acbio Supplier #27.  He has an account here, but hasn't been online in a while.  Really good guy and good service if the machine is worth fixing...this one is not.

Thanks for the insight. I am totally game to DIY, but I was hoping to get some basic guidance. For example, if the pressure sensor is bad, can I find another? Are there any graveyard sources for parts units?

If I have no hope of fixing it, then I would prefer to go with BiPAP over CPAP, I find it a lot more tolerable.

Why is the machine not worth fixing? I would assume that a new BiPAP unit is at least several hundred dollars.

Unplugging and re-powering two separate times did not change the outcome. I am pretty certain it's a hard failure.

What were you thinking a 10 year old, heavily used BiPAP is worth?  It's a medical device and its value at that age and reliability level might be $50 on the open market and repair costs will be approximately the same as you can buy a new auto CPAP. I told you what a new BiPAP would cost, and it's more than several hundred. The point is you need a reliable machine. If money is tight, check your local Craigslist or make a wider search. A replacement machine, potentially nearly new, will cost far less than repair.
