Picked up a new PR 560 for a spare. Use it or store it?

Picked up a new PR 560 for a spare. Use it or store it?
I have a PR 560 that's about 3 years old, and picked up a brand new spare to keep in case it dies at some point, since if the machine doesn't work, I don't work either. 8-)

Is there any difference between the earlier and later versions of the same model? Is there a way to check the firmware version?

My old machine is working nicely, but I'm always open for improvements. 8-)

I'm trying to decide if I should keep the new one in it's box in case theold one dies, or switch to the new one and store the old one.

Hi Terry,
When I got my backup machine, I switched to the newer one and kept the older one for a backup. I did that because the newer machine had a newer firmware at my request.
Good luck on your decision.

When you power the machine on (remove the power cord, then re-insert it) the machine display first shows the firmware version, then boots the SD card, and finally displays the menus. You can compare the boot-up of each machine.

There are differences between firmware versions, but they are not documented for us mere mortals, so I couldn't tell you what difference they make. I doubt you would notice any differences or be able to detect them in data.

As long as your existing machine is working well, I would continue to use it. As soon as your new machine is used, it becomes "used" in the event you choose to resell it. It's easily possible you will qualify for a new insured machine long before your old one quits. On the other hand, it's always nice to use the things you buy, so do what makes you happy.

Thanks! I'll check and if the new version is wildly newer than the old one, I'll probably try it. If not, I'll just leave it in the box.

The insurance thing is kind of tricky because my co-pay is actually more than what I paid for the machine I just bought, but insurance covers newer machines than what I just bought, so I might go with them anyway when the time comes.

My current machine has been working very well for me, keeping my RDI down to 1 or less, but being greedy, I'm always open for one that might be a little better or more intelligent at adjusting the pressures. 8-)

Remember the warranty is still ticking away whether your using it or it is in the box. Would suck to pull it out of the box three years from now and find a problem after using it for a month then finding out the warranty expired. Just my thought Dont-know I always put my newest machine at home and use my older one as my travel machine.

That's another vote for "use the new one".

If I end up in a moldy hotel room somewhere, I still have a nice clean machine at home. 8-)

I was using an old M-series auto for years which didn't measure CA or RERA. Last year in December I acquired a PRS1 560 with very low hours and retired the M-series with 20K hours. My AHI went from 2.75 to 1.5 with a RERA just over 1.0 with that new machine. That is nearly half the AHI, and the old machine didn't measure RERA. In mid-January I started using an auto-bilevel 760, and after some experimentation with settngs, managed to get average AHI to less than 1.0 and RERA less than 0.5, and 80% of residual AHI is CA which is probably not real.

A different machine can make a difference. For me, the difference in reducing RERA was bilevel. I showed these summaries to may doctor (I don't use a sleep specialist), and he agreed that that made bilevel "medically necessary", so that is what my prescription shows now.

Nice score and good price on that new auto machine through Amazon! It's a great idea to have a standby, and now that you have one, your other machine will never fail. Big Grin

Thanks!

It can now join my very expensive Honda generator that has successfully prevented the local power grid from failing for the last 10 years. I bought it after a 2 week outage. Since then, the longest outage has been a couple of hours.

Now that I have it, I'll probably never need it. 8-)
