Presidential election.

RE: Presidential election.
A lot of the criticisms of Trump are simple, evidence-free ad hominem attacks. While I agree he has an unattractive personality, I would say the same about other presidents, such as Clinton and Obama. There are few presidents or prime ministers/leaders who possess genuine charisma these days, or a believable persona of empathy. Consequently, my votes are often cast while I hold my nose.

But back to Trump. That man has been the target of more personal, vicious, base and offensive rhetoric than any man I am aware of, and that includes despotic rulers of third-world countries. Language used against Donald Trump is apparently too extreme to be leveled at Putin or Xi. This is the origin of the term 'Trump Derangement Syndrome'.

So much of what is termed 'criticism' of Trump is little more than personal insults, such as accusing him of putting his ego before the nation. But I won't argue the point with welded-on lefties, because cognitive dissonance usually prevents any rational discussion of Trump.

The Trump years and all the unhinged abuse he has suffered - a period when the globalist elites had their plans for utter domination challenged - reminds me of the old military saying, "When the flak increases, you know you're over the target."

One of the interesting sidebars of the last four years has been the addition to our vocabulary of new adjectives. Words such as "trumpian" - an adjective - which at this point in time doesn't seem to have made it to any of the mainstream dictionaries. The fact that it isn't a dictionary word is that that it doesn't have a clearly defined definition (a requirement for inclusion). Yet I see so many social media posts including this word and it's derivatives (trumpist, trumpy, trumpesque, trumpish, etc). I've asked some social media posters to define the words for me (as I don't understand what it means). Their response has generally been along the lines of "If you don't understand it then you never will".

If you’re wondering just how soviet the USA could become if governed by the New Socialist Democrats, look up the newly-announced ‘Trump Accountability Project’.

Scary stuff if it actually comes together. Just a few years ago, I would have said this stuff is too crazy even for Hollywood.

No, I'm definitely in Oz Big Grin

I just have a keen interest in the political landscape of English-speaking western 'democracies'.

Australia is, I believe, in a parlous position right now and more dependent on having strong allies than ever before - thanks to the growing power and belligerence of China. Consequently, anything that weakens the USA militarily, such as the rise of progressive socialism, is a big deal for little Oz.

Yep. And it should be a big area of concern in the US.

RE: Presidential election.
Back in 2016, soon after Trump’s election, a guy retreated to his mountainside bunker, terrified of what was to come. He was told that an army of gun-toting, redneck Deplorables was going to fill the streets, murdering gays, blacks, immigrants and anybody who wasn’t a signed-up fascist or KKK member.

Four years later, a note was left outside his bunker, telling him that Trump was gone.

The Resistance — at least what was left of it: the FBI, the Democratic Party, the United Nations, the WHO, the IMF, the EU, China, Hollywood, the Department of Justice, the universities, the CIA, the media, Iran, the European Union, Facebook, Twitter, Google, the banks and Bette Midler — had managed to send messages from the underground. Maybe now he could now rejoin society.

Of course, he was filled with trepidation. Had the world survived the armageddon? Is the nightmare really over?

Needless to say, many cities would be underwater due to rising seas and raging storms would be battering the globe constantly. Women would have been turned into sex slaves, barred from all but the most menial jobs. Millions would have died in the nuclear holocaust when the Evil Orange One attempted to obliterate the Middle East, and Mexico would be a smoking ruin. How many LGBTI people had survived the cleansing? Would the sky even be visible through the dense black smog from dirty fossil fuels? Were any black people still alive?

But he also had hope. There were rumours of a saviour. She was obviously in great jeopardy and working underground, known only by the codename ‘AOC’. Her courage was an inspiration. Her bravery matched her intelligence. She’d written an essay in which she proved, using feminist epistemology, that women working at Starbucks were under more pressure, and hence were braver, than soldiers in the 82nd Airborne Division on D-Day.

Writing in the New York Times, she had explained the mystery of why more people had jobs while the Evil One was in power, and why this was a bad thing. She explained why peace in the Middle East was worse than war, and how a bad haircut and small hands were a harbinger of a demographic mass cleansing. She explained the paradigm of Venezuela’s collapse as due to capitalism and white privilege. “If you make more of something then there is less of it to go around. That’s why we need more of less”. Deep stuff - that’s why she’s known by her initials.

And so, full of hope he emerged, and was blinded.

Besides the election, I'm now wondering if we will find out about the 80,000 rounds of ammunition that was sold in less than 30 minutes at a Sporting Goods store in the Pacific Northwest.   Do you all have a lot of varmints up there?  Thinking-about

RE: Presidential election.
My thoughts about President Joe Biden:  Although I supported Trump, President Biden is my President and I will support him if he does what he said he would do.  He told us he was a moderate.  If he is – great.  If he does try to bring the country back together, great.  All I ask is that he do what he said he would do as President.  BUT just like President Trump, I will be looking at what his actions, not what he says.
More than ½ of the American people support his Presidency and I hope everyone will give him a chance to govern.  He has earned that right.  But to keep my support he must earn it.
These are the things I will be looking for that he told us he would do:
We can keep private health insurance and Drs.
 He will not end fracking.
He will work with the other side.
He will NOT increase taxes for people making less than $400,000.

Other things I will be concerned about:  I know that I cannot expect everything on this list to be done the way I want.  However, the more we lose off this list the less support he will get from me.
2nd amendment
Not to Open borders
Law and Order and support for our police
Oil and gas will go away someday but it needs to be phased out very slowly
NO green new deal
No new wars – continue trying to get us out of the Middle East
Keeping public schools open
Keeping the economy open
Things that are deal breakers:
Packing the Supreme Court
Packing the Senate (bringing in 2 new states - DC and Puerto Rico)
Changing the Electoral College
Another large factor is the Senate.  With the Republicans in control, there is a check on radical changes.  We will not know who has control until the Georgia runoff elections next month.  He said he was a moderate and if he is most of what I have listed will be ok.  If not then he has lost all of my support.

What are the deal breakers for you?
