[Pressure] Life with New Machine

Life with New Machine
Switched out of M series BiPAP to an Aircurve Vauto 10. My last BIPAP was 13 IPAP and 9 EPAP. Does anyone know how I may replicate this on my machine. In S MODE of 9 to 13 I never seem to get past 9.5. I do sleep, but I want to sleep better. Thanks for info on how to change settings. I have been experimenting.

S mode is not auto. In S mode with IPAP set to 13 and EPAP to 9, the machine should switch from 9 to 13 as you inhale; then back to 9 on exhale. If you wish to use the auto feature, you must put it in auto mode; and set IPAPmax, EPAPmin, and PS. You would set PS to 4 to replicate previous PS. IPAPmax above 13 and EPAPmin at or a little below 9.

(If I understand your question....)

[Thanks
I'll put machine in vauto mode with max IPAP 13 and EPAP 9. I don't think my current doctor who I've used for over 8 understands new technology. Ive been very successful with my settings for years but I needed new study to get new machine. Machine came with IPAP 18 and EPAP of 14 on the S mode.I couldn't keep my mouth closed at 14.So all he need was lower the amounts in S mode.
In process of moving out of state and will find new specialist.

If you put your machine in auto mode with maxIPAP=13 and minEPAP=9 with a PS of 4, it will be operating just like it was in S mode. You need to adjust the Max IPAP and the Min EPAP further apart to give the auto function a chance to move the EPAP per your needs.

I agree with this and justMongo. With your machine the min EPAP and PS setting will drive where your IPAP goes. For the range you are wanting you should set the mode to VAuto, the PS to 4, the Min EPAP to 8, and the max IPAP to 16 or higher. This will give you a range for your VAuto mode to work over. It will not go up to 16 unless it needs to. If your previous machine settings are the best, the new machine will settle around 13 and 9. If not it will find a different "sweet spot" which you will then be able to study using the data.
I selected the max IPAP of 16 because of my personal experience where I thought my old CPAP machine was set correctly and working OK but the new auto machine found a better setting 2.5 levels above.
if you can't decide then you don't have enough data.

Hi BIGELI,

On your machine the "EPAP" and "IPAP" settings are used when the therapy mode is "S" mode and are not used when in VAuto mode.

In "VAuto" therapy mode it is necessary to set "Min EPAP" and "Max IPAP" and "PS" (Pressure Support).

Min EPAP is the lower limit for EPAP. The machine may raise EPAP in response to indications of obstruction, snore or Flow Limitation.

PS is the desired difference between EPAP and IPAP. IPAP is always equal to EPAP plus PS.

Max IPAP is the upper limit for IPAP. The machine will automatically adjust EPAP as needed, and IPAP will always be equal to EPAP plus PS, but EPAP will not be able to increase higher than IPAP minus PS.
