RE: Problem exhaling
Unofon, it looks like you are using open pressure settings 4-20 and EPR at 1. I think you will find your machine more comfortable in Auto mode with a minimum pressure of 7, maximum pressure of 14 and EPR at 3. Your problem is perceived exhale resistance, and these settings will help with that. Except for the past week, your leak results are great. Clean the mask well so you have a good seal, and let's see if the higher EPR and starting pressure helps.

Rather than giving us the statistical summary data, can you post the detailed data graphs for a night where you wake up feeling like you cannot exhale properly?

We need to see the following graphs:
Flow rate
Pressure
Leak Rate

Hi and welcome to the forum unofon!

Based on my own experiences, could the early wakenings be the result of a spike in apneas due to REM sleep stage? I'm sure others with lots more knowledge and experience can tell you why this is happening. Good luck and keep us posted!

Unofon, what mask are you using precisely? Your machine is setup for a nasal pillows mask.

My best guess is that your wake up was a normal post-REM wake, and that the problem is more along the lines of needing to train your body that it's ok to not worry about being awake in the early morning for a few minutes.

It's also possible that since this wake occurred 6 hours after you went to bed, that your body felt as though you'd gotten enough high quality sleep and it just didn't need much more sleep. If you were used to sleeping longer hours before starting CPAP, it's important to remember that those extra hours of sleep were not particularly restful.

As for why these early morning wakes started in Oct when you started PAPing in late July: It may be that in August and September your body was in active recovery mode----as in craving the extra sleep that it no longer thinks it needs.

Is there a problem with just getting up and starting your day at 5:30ish when you wake up and can't get back to sleep?
