help with leaks and wake ups

RE: help with leaks and wake ups
Nyrie,

Since your pressure is fairly high it becomes even more important that both your face be oil-free as well as the mask cushion, if only one gets cleaned then the other will become oily and that's an open invitation for mask leaks.

A silicone cushion won't stick to your face if you apply moisturizer/cream either.

There's also a possibility you may not have the correct size mask, you said the nice woman sent it to you but, did you try-on any other sizes while you were at the DME? A lot of people don't match the ResMed sizing guide for whichever mask they're trying to size and sometimes you have to just try a different size before finding one that's just right.

Just trying to cover a few more possibilities.

RE: help with leaks and wake ups
Hello,
When I worked in the sleep lab I fitted many people with masks. I understand it is very hard to get a mask that fits just right with minimal leaks. You may want to try a different size Quattro fx or get another mask. The Fisher & Paykel 431 full face mask is a good mask that fit most people. Also there is a comfort car pad to put across the nose and that may help with air leaks. Most insurance companies will pay for a comfort care pad. Hope this helps.

Ramp makes leaks worse. Try without ramp.

If you use ramp, you fit the mask while you're at a low pressure. Then when you fall asleep, pressure increases and the mask will leak, even if you got it to not leak when you started.

You also have a problem with leaks if you start your auto machine with too low a pressure.

Do you use the mask fit check function? This might help you fit the mask correctly, since it blows with higher pressure for a while.

Full Face Masks (FFM) are often harder to stop leaking because they have a bigger area to seal. Also, since they touch more of your face, there's more variation in shape.

Get the free OSCAR CPAP software here.

If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check it yourself.
