upper end limiting
Hi can someone explain why on an auto pap machine we couldn`t just let the upper pressure seek it own level rather than restricting it by capping with a lower than max pressure ?

RE: upper end limiting
The reason that you cap the pressure is to avoid large pressure swings that can disrupt sleep.

RE: upper end limiting
Gary, an open range of pressure does work well for many people, and as you say, the machine finds the "right" pressure to stop events and does not go higher. For another group of people, the machines will increase pressure above their most effective therapy pressure and can even cause problems. They may have a chronic flow limitation, snores or other issue that the machine detects as requiring higher pressure. This can cause discomfort, breathing problems or even apnea, so when we see this, we will suggest setting a maximum pressure. Most of the time, the maximum set pressure becomes like a fixed pressure because the machine will always increase to that level. It's not that common, but it happens.
