Problem with Mako/Infineer EncorePro card reader

Problem with Mako/Infineer EncorePro card reader
I have an old but new-to-me Infineer (Mako) card reader that reads the 'old' EncorePro Smartcards that I have in my pre-2007 Resmed BiPAP machine. I downloaded the EncorePro software and tried to load the appropriate driver for the reader on my Windows7 64-bit machine. I loaded the software about couldn't seem to load the driver. I gave up, but after sitting overnight, the card reader started working. I noted that the device manager showed the Mako Smartcard reader in the driver list. I didn't understand what happened, but I successfully downloaded data from my card and generated a report using the EncorePro software.

Fast forward to today and the reader does not work. There is no driver shown in the device manager list and no matter how I try to reload the driver, I cannot get the machine to recognize the device. I get erros like unknown device and when I try to install a driver manually, it does seem to work.

Help.

Have you tried the EncoreBasic 2.4.8.0? http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...s-Machines

I have found EncorePro simply didn't work for me.

I have found EncorePro simply didn't work for me.

EncorePro worked fine - until it didn't. The issue appears to be the driver for the card not being seen or properly installed. I have received conflicting messages. A pop-up tells me that the Mako card reader was properly installed, yet a review of the device drivers (via Control Panel) shows an unknown device and errors.

OP CORRECTION: I am using EncoreBasic, not Pro. Yest my problems noted above persist.

I honestly don't know. I plugged it in, and it worked. Sometimes I would have to start the application before inserting the card. Here is the manufacturer website: http://www.mako-tech.com/pands/reader_sol/dt3500.cfm

If all else fails, don't overlook the possibility it might work with a 32 bit driver. http://www.ais-magnetic.com/e/download_d...p?id=23390

Have you checked to see if the card reader service is running and set to automatic?
If not try right clicking on "My Computer ' then left clicking on "Manage" then "Services and Applications" then "Services" Scroll down to find the card reader service and see if it's running. You can set it to Automatic by left clicking on the service and then right clicking on Properties.

I see no 'My Computer' icon or entry in Windows7

I did look in the device driver utliity and there are no utilities for a smartcard reader. There was one when the cardreader was installed and it was working.

Weird. I left the reader plugged in with the card inserted and let the laptop go into sleep mode. After it awoke an hour later, it automatically installed the Mako driver and worked fine.

I have attached a screencap of the correct driver installation.

I bet it doesn't work the next time I try. I will post in a day or so with an update.

It picked up the 32 bit driver and worked. Smile
The old advice, reboot twice and call me in the morning also seems applicable. Glad it's working for you. Got data?

It may have been just "Computer" in Win 7. Or maybe "This PC" - I lose track and have no idea why Microsoft changes it.
You can also try Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services use the Standard Tab.

There is no 'smart card reader' service. There is a 'smart card' service that is 'started'.

As expected, it is not working again when I insert the card/reader. Windows seems not to load the driver, just like last time. We'll see what ype of magic dust I can scrounge up tonight to make it sponteneously work again.
