[Product Review] Mirage Quattro Air
#31
RE: Mirage Quattro Air
Thanks all. Last night seemed to go better, in my view, I "slept" 6 hours and only got up once during the night. Now, that is my view, the data will tell if this new small Quattro Air has few "leaks".

One thing I have learned - keep your CPAP unit near the floor, well below the level of your head and turn the humidity down if the humidity of the air is already 100%.

I had a couple of episodes where the moisture in the mask was affecting the seal and the air I was breathing just felt too "thick". I now set it at "3" on the humid or really cool days that seem to cause condensation in the "tube" and mask.

Actually it is not a bad mask. It is very comfortable. It just cheek farts when you change positions.
Today I got a Quattro FX and took a nap with it. It seems to leak at the top.
I tried it with a resmed cloth leak stopper and that helped. So now I have three masks. Nano, fx and air. I can't really do the nano even with a chin strap.
I was hoping the Fx would leak less.

RE: Mirage Quattro Air
I have been using my new women's small Quattro air and with adjustment it does fit better and have few leaks than the original men's size small I started with.

I have found the advise to leave all the straps loose, turn on your machine and then tighten the straps seems to work. Also, I pull the mask lower on my face to seal better on the bridge (below the bridge actually) of my nose. I have a very thin, high bridge and it was not sealing due to the larger "cut out" for the nose.

I am a side sleeper, so really tighten the lower straps and am able to turn over, move on my pillow without any leaks. The daytime sleepiness/fatigue is apparently due to one of my medications that I started at the same time I started CPAP therapy. I am now slowly moving that medication to late in the day/evening to avoid the problem.

I never had any of the usual sleep apnea symptoms, i.e., daytime sleepiness/fatigue. I have always slept 6 hours per night, straight through only occasionally waking to use the restroom. When they suggested I get a sleep study due to newly diagnosed atrial fib. I thought they were nuts.

RE: Mirage Quattro Air
I have been using the Quattro Air for a few weeks and alternating with the swift fx nano and pillows as well as Quattro fx. I have horrendous jaw drop so it appears a full face is my destiny. I find the Quattro Air works best with a mask liner which helps with leaks and farts. I actually like the hook rather than the clips as sometimes it is hard to line up the clips during the night if I have to put the mask back on. I also like the quick hose release feature. It is easier to clean and reassemble too. If you get an itch, you can release the hose and scratch through the hose hole without having to remove the mask entirely. All in all I find the quattro air the best mask I have tried so far.

RE: Mirage Quattro Air
Hi all, I also have been with the Quattro Air for more than a week and would like to add my 2 cents worth here.
After suffering for some time with the Respronics Amara Gel and all its leaks and farts, near to strangling ones self with the tension required with it, along came the Quattro Air and its been a dream for me since.
The bridge of the nose area is so comfortable now, and noticable is the lack of tension on all mask straps that is required to maintain a good seal.
Being a male, I do of course give a quick shave around the seal contact areas and wash the face as well prior to fitting, and yes the "Quick Release" of the connection is indeed a bonus.

RE: Quattro Air full-face mask
(09-01-2013, 07:15 AM)EDM Wrote: Hello everyone,

I’d like to take the opportunity and share my experiences with the Quattro Air full-face mask from ResMed. I needed a better solution after my therapy was changed from nCPAP to ASV therapy. I had a Mirage FX (one size fits all) with nCPAP therapy which led to leaks under ASV therapy so I used a chin restraint because I didn’t want a full-face mask. The chin restraint would work rather well if it would only stay on my head during the night. In addition I tried the Swift FX Nano (size wide) but that was just terrible. Therefore I needed something else. Luckily the Quattro Air full-face mask just became available in my country and it looked very similar to the Mirage FX so I thought I’d give a full-face mask a try.

Unfortunately, the Quattro Air (size M) that ResMed gave me didn’t fit accurately enough and it would leak. One would expect that as an average sized person would need an average sized mask, well no! I found a fitting template for the Quattro Air full-face mask and sure enough I actually needed size S and not size M. According to the template the mask size is determined by the distance between the chin crease and the sealing area on the nasal bridge. If one would happen to be in-between sizes you should use the smaller size. ResMed replaced my Quattro Air full-face mask and now everything is working perfectly.

I come to the conclusion that the Quattro Air full-face mask from ResMed is a very good mask as long you make sure you have the right size. I would encourage everybody with ASV therapy in need of a full-face mask to use this one.

Regards,
Eric

@SuperSleeper: I'm not allowed to post links to this forum? Why not? I wanted to post the fitting template right here! Why should I want to post anything else?

Thanks so much for the information. Started Apnea therapy 3 months ago. Am on my second mask a Quattro Air. Started on Mirage model. So called specialists never mentioned templates. I am quite sure my mask is too large.
It sometimes slides up on my nose. I have a terrible time stopping leaks.
Will try again and this time I will ask about using a template to determine my size.

RE: Mirage Quattro Air
For the "pocket mask" style full face masks (ffms), the Quattro Air seems to get a mixed review. For those who it fits, it's a light, comfortable mask. For those who it doesn't, it's an absolute whoopee cushion because of the very soft seal.

I'm fortunate that it fits my face...as long as I don't yawn. I'm using a large and it fits pretty good....but with the lower seal sitting between by ching and mouth, if I yawn I sometimes find the seal in my mouth (yes, I have a big mouth Wink ).

Overall, a great mask, if it fits you and you have the right size.

RE: Mirage Quattro Air
Leaks: 3
Pain: 1
size tried: x-small "for her"

I got this mask by accident (they sent the wrong one) and since it was the weekend, I went ahead and tried it. AND it was my first go at a FFM.

It fit nice and surprisingly did not leak much. It took a while to find the right placement and all that. I used it to take a nap so I got all the mask farting and giggling out of the way. I have to sleep on my back, slightly inclined, and the mask didn't like this position. I had to lay on my side to get the mask to stop mask farting.

However, all of the next day, I had pain in my upper cheeks, below my eyes, where the mask sat. And no, I did not have the mask that tight. There were no red marks but dang, it hurt! The second night, I slept on my back but less of an incline in case the pillow had pushed the mask into my face. But the next morning, the pain was even worse.

So I only used this mask two nights. I could have worked with the leaks (looking at its leak rate, they probably were within the norm) but no way do I put up with pain from a mask.

And yes, the next day, after using my Nuance, my cheeks did not hurt. They were still tender to the touch though.
