[Product Review] Phillips Respironics DreamStation CPAP Pro

Phillips Respironics DreamStation CPAP Pro
I will rate this product with 5  Thumbs-up-2

This product,IMHO, is worth the money. My Province paid $650.00 and I paid $520.00 which totals to $1170.00 Canadian.

I found that it performed as advertised and by my DME.

Pro's:
1) It will self adjust the pressure,up or down, as needed by your breathing during sleep. No more waking up not being feeling In was being suffocated.

2)Very quiet.

3) Dual Air Filters. One washable and a Micro-filter can be added if needed.

4) Best of all the hose, when using the humidifier, is on a swivel on top of the humidifier.

Con's:
The light, when it is on, is very bright and wakes my wife up. What I don't like is cycled off before I can get back from the bathroom.

I would recommend this product without any hesitation.

RE: Phillips Respironics DreamStation CPAP Pro
I found this machine quite noisey. Take a look at this thread the lengths people went to block the noise from the Dreamstation: http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...-your-CPAP

The LCD light bothered me so much that I had to cover it up. It only turned off after about a 60 seconds and it lit up the room.

The adjusting of pressure is common to all auto adjusting cpap machines. I also don't like how Respironics did away with the two hour quasi ramp feature plus the normal 45 minute ramp that the legacy models had.

The machine is actually quite heavy and large, although slightly smaller and lighter than my legacy respironics remstar pro. I can't recommend this machine, however, I may have to get it since my AirSense 10 has seal issues resulting in leakage and noises.

You should use BOTH filters not just one.

I am not sure how you got your cpap with humidifier for so cheap. My dme charges me $1900 CDN.

The only noise problem I had was what was said in my original post. The noise disappeared after a few nights. Problem fixed!

I don't use the Ramp feature, and never have, so can't comment.

I'm really befuddled by your comment that"the machine is quite heavy and large".
From day1 I believed the machine to be smaller and much later than my ResMed S 9 Elite.

I guess it's "to each his own."

Hoping you soon find a machine to suit your needs.

Good Luck and keep trying machines.

My DreamStation Auto should get delivered tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to get it up and running right away. I'm replacing a DeVilbiss IntelliPap. Will be interesting to see the size difference. I do not use the humidifier.

Good Luck with your new machine. Just remember that you are making a big change and it will take a while to get used to your new machine.

Be patient and have fun with it.

Big change? I hope not. I'm on a fixed pressure, so I hope there's not a big change.

Other than getting used to a new sound, the changes I hope to deal with are the detailed reports that might give me some hints on adjusting some "flex" settings. I'm going from something that doesn't report anything other than compliance percentages.

UPS tracking info says it's still "Out For Delivery". I forgot to verify the on-line place would set the thing for me. If they didn't I'll have to get into the clinicians settings and do it myself.

You quote the thread I started and say the DreamStation is "noisy", and say "look at the lengths people went to to block the noise from the DreamStation." --

Let me just clarify MY post..

The DreamStation is not "noisy"... it has a slight fan noise that my wife found "noticeable".. but not loud.
We live in a very quiet area, so quiet I can hear the gears running in an electric clock, the slightest sound in our place can be clearly heard.

I find the DreamStation noise is unobtrusive, it is just a slight fan noise that changes tone between inhale and exhale.

The DreamStation has been tested and found to be the second quietest machine available on the market..

And I would hardly describe "the lengths I have gone to" to muffle the sound as anything extreme.
I simply placed a nylon kitchen chopping board between the mattress and bed base to form a shelf above the machine, and then laid a folded towel on top of it.

What I have done has been simple and effective... and for me personally it was unnecessary, but it has made it easier for my wife to go to sleep beside me when the machine is running.

Seeing as my machine sits down on the floor right beside the bed, the light has not been an issue for me.

My loan/test machine has to go back in a month, after my test data has been compiled for my specialist.. and he has decided if I need a CPAP as a condition of getting my licence back.

If I do have to have one I will definitely be buying a Philips DreamStation kitted with the Fisher & Paykel Eson nasal mask, even if I can't get it cheaper than the $2,600 I've been quoted at this point in time.

RE: Phillips Respironics DreamStation CPAP Pro
I used my new DreamStation last night for the first time.

Pros: Small, looks very much like a clock radio. I don't have the humidifier, so that does make a difference. Came with a 15mm hose. I've always used a 22mm and the new hose is very much lighter and more flexible. There is a setting on the machine that allows you to switch between hose sizes. There is always a slight difference in the sounds you will hear from machine to machine, but this one didn't sound unusual.

Cons: The power supply brick - awkward for my nightstand layout and power cord positioning.

Comments: It looks so much like a clock radio that my wife said it should have an alarm clock function and turn itself off when programmed so you can wake up gasping for air.

The carrying case is big. It's sized to hold the humidifier and without it, the case really swallows up the CPAP.

With one night in the books, I'll see what Sleepyhead can tell me.

RE: Phillips Respironics DreamStation CPAP Pro
Greetings

After 5 years with a Resmed EliteS9 I have just picked up my new Dreamstation Pro CPAP with humidifier for $860 with a personal payment of $215. I added the heated hose which cost an extra $75 and donated the free mask that came with it as that model did not work well with my broken nose.
The travel case is... large and appears to be reasonably well padded but I think I am going to miss the outside pocket that carried my extension cord.

I will post my review after I have used it for a few days.
