[Product Review] Resmed Air TOUCH F20 full-face mask
#11
RE: Resmed Air TOUCH F20 full-face mask
I haven't shaved in this century, and much of the last one... Cool  and so am on the "Cousin It" side of the spectrum...
When I started CPAP I tried several different Resmed and Phillips FF masks, and couldn't get any of them to seal consistently without cranking the headgear far tighter than was comfortable...
When I talked w/ my sleep doc about it, he suggested a foam mask, and since I already had a Resmed AirFIT mask that uses the same headgear, I tried that model, as my insurance was past the initial trial window, but not to where I'd be covered for new headgear...  It worked so I've stuck with it.  I still need to keep the headgear on the snug side, but not as tight as I did with the silicone masks.
Going to the foam mask dropped my % Large Leak time from about 25% to around 5%, at least some of which is
I could live with the Phillips headgear, but didn't really like the way they had that big plastic extension that went up to your forehead for the top straps.  The Resmed gear that has the straps coming out the side of the mask seems more comfortable to me, although I can't decide if I like or hate the magnetic catches on the bottom straps, they work well and are easy to connect, but seem to always want to tangle up and stick to each other when I'm putting the mask on...  The other minor pain point is needing to feed my ponytail through the hole in the middle of the headgear in order to get the straps to run under it, but overall I still like the Resmed headgear better.

This is a really helpful series. I tried the F20; I never tried the AirFit version
I've never been able to wear a full face mask long enough to be compliant. However, the F20 was better for me than some others.

I've never tried the F30...if I found a full face mask I could keep on I would get one. I've tried at least 7 of them...claustrophobic..

If you are able to be compliant w/ a nasal mask, I'm not sure why you feel a need for a full-face?   Huh   I know that everything I've read and been told by sleep docs, etc. is that nasal masks / pillows are the 'preferred' approach...

I have simply found that my nose tends to stuff up at night, so I end up breathing through my mouth at least in part, so had to go full face.  I also have intermittent problems with sore spots on my nose and upper lip, and the pressure of a nose mask would be painful when that flares up.

Some ways I wish I COULD use a nose only solution as it would possibly be easier to get a good seal, and might also not have me waking up in the morning w/ 'sewer-mouth' (dry, unpleasant tasting, etc)

Well I've been doing this a long time. Compliant for about 30 years.

Putting on a nasal mask and then a chinstrap is a pain in a tender spot.  I have an OSCAR treatment thread here that's really long. My issue is mouth breathing. It's intermittent. or so I think. Wink

I want to be prepared if I'm forced to use a full face mask (sleep doc?)

I don't want to hijack this thread...I want to be better educated.
