Can anyone shed light on how to burn a dvd from a dvd in Win 8?

Any help or ideas would be great!

RE: Question on Burning DVDs
Win 8 doesn't have any internal application to burn or play DVDs - you have to get a third party for that. Depending on the DVD there are several solutions - naturally, there is Nero, which will do everything, but a good free application, if dated, is DVD Shrink - it has the advantage of being able to resize any larger DVD to fit onto a 4.8 Gb blank without a problem, then either burn it or save it in either iso or video TS format. Note this works only for DVDs, not BlueRay. For other Freeware applications to do this, check out Doom9.org, it is chock full of stuff.

Thanks DocWils.

What I am trying to burn is no music but voices only (that are talking). I may just pay someone to copy it. That is why I miss win 7 a lot. There are ways I Win 8 that I read about just a few minutes ago but it is long and drawn out and I would rather just pay to have it done. The files aren't that large and wouldn't even come near filling up a DVD.

RE: Question on Burning DVDs
Win 8 does have ISOBurn.exe for BURNING an ISO disk image. (Win7 through Win8.1)

http://www.7tutorials.com/burning-iso-or-img-disk-images-windows-7

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything included to grab the disk to an ISO (disk image).

There are many articles on the web for finding free software that does this:

...but watch out for (light) "adware", not so much that it is evil, there will usually be a "choice" to install the advertised extra program or not, so be sure to choose "Do Not Install" unless you really want the add-on item.

VirusTotal https://www.virustotal.com/ is a excellent way to scan such download files (indvidually) before trying to install them.

VirusTotal runs about 45 different malware scanners against an uploaded file so while nothing automatically means safety you get a pretty good idea.

(Also, some programs give false positives, but if you aren't sure it's best to skip a program that is detected by malware with any of the scanners. There are actually some very GOOD programs that will be detected by around half the scanners, but explaining how and why this can happen would be a bit tedious.)

RE: Question on Burning DVDs
Not knowing what the DVD really is, have you tried copying it from the disc to the desktop and then writing it back to a new DVD? I do mot of my burning work on a Mac even though my laptop is Win 8.1.

Just a suggestion or other thought process.

RE: Question on Burning DVDs
Win 8.1 does not have a native application for burning dvds (which is quite strange), however I would look into getting a program called Furious ISO mount & Burn. That is the software I use.

RE: Question on Burning DVDs
I use a freeware program called "CDBurnerXP." Google for it. It does a great job of copying cd's and dvd's. The "free" version allows you to do that. The "new and improved for a price" version allows you to do more. You need the free one.
