PR System One: C-Check vs Auto?

PR System One: C-Check vs Auto?
So my respiratory therapist set my PR System One to "C-Check" instead of Auto. Is there any reason why I should keep this setting? Or would it be more advantageous to just go ahead and set it to Auto? (There was nothing on my prescription regarding this).

Hi ailu,
So, which machine did you get? Was it the one you really wanted?
Not sure about C Check.
Hang in there for answers to your question.

I have this same machine and never heard of C-Check untill I went into the Clinicial menu and there it was!
Im not sure what it does, so I looked in the manual and it doesn't go into any detail about
C-Check. The other mode choices were CPAP, AUTO, and Auto Trial.

Wish I could help out, but it looks like C-Check is definetly CPAP mode and not Auto Mode.

The patient's user's manual says this about C-Check:

"CPAP Check (C-Check) - If available on your device, this mode delivers CPAP therapy while automatically adjusting the pressure level to meet your needs. Pressure adjustments while in CPAP-Check mode are more gradual than those that occur in Auto-Trial mode and the amount of adjustment that can be made over time is limited."

There are two versions of the manual. I requested it from Apnea Board while my machine was on order, and received a manual dated 12/01/2011. It does not list the C-Check and A-Trial modes. I received a printed copy dated 5/25/2012 in the box with the machine; it lists the two added modes.

The 5/25/2012 manual also lists an Opti-Start feature which adjusts the starting pressure in Auto mode based on past data. I have Opti-Start enabled, but it hasn't made any adjustments in 2 1/2 months.

RE: PR System One: C-Check vs Auto?
Ailu, I'd give the current settings a fair chance and see how you feel. It's pretty easy to set a 560 to auto mode and then narrow down the optimal pressure range. Avoid the temptation to start dial twirling. It's important to approach CPAP with some consistency and make changes only after sufficient observation suggests a good reason to make a change. Using the auto mode is great when you are trying to identify what pressures are most effective and where events might be more common. Ultimately and auto-CPAP is still a CPAP. It is designed to produce a single pressure and make adjustments upward or downward based on it's programming. That is not necessarily better than a properly set CPAP that does not change.

If you find using the current settings, that you have periods at night with higher frequency of events, or are not getting the kind of results you expected, that might be a good reason to explore a range of pressures around your prescription using the auto mode. Meanwhile, it might be less disruptive having a more constant pressure, without the machine constantly exploring pressures using 2-cm pressure pulses like you get in Respironic's auto mode.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Unfortunately I woke myself up SNORING in the middle of the night, and my head was pounding. My mask wasn't leaking, so it became obvious to me that neither the C-Check nor my prescribed pressure setting of 7 was preventing apnea. Oh-jeez

So I went into the clinician's menu and changed the setting to AUTO. Set a MIN of 7 and a MAX of 10. Went back to sleep and slept like a baby the rest of the night! Smile

so happy that 7 to 10 worked for you. Though C-check did not work for you, I am going to try the C-check, and see if it shows me good info in sleepyhead.

I realize this is a very old thread but just in case anyone really cares you may want to know that C-check mode is intended to monitor your CPAP pressure over a 30 hour period and adjust the fixed CPAP pressure up or down as needed. This is not like auto where it is continually being monitored and adjusted on an ongoing basis as you are using your machine.
