RAMP-AUTO (SLEEP DETECTION)

RAMP-AUTO (SLEEP DETECTION)
Question here. If the machine can detect when you fall asleep with ramp on auto and proceed to raise the pressure to therapeutic levels why can’t it detect when you’re awake and stop flagging events before you fall asleep or flagging post arousal centrals? That would essentially make my AHI nonexistent. Code would be to complicated or they just aren’t there yet?

RE: RAMP-AUTO (SLEEP DETECTION)
It's easy at the beginning, the machine was off, now it's on, breathing has begun. We must be awake at this moment.
Then there is a change in respiration depth and rate ,we are probably asleep ,so we can begin ramp.*

What length of time would you use to define an arousal period as 'awake'? Apnea's,Hypopnea's and RERA's are all arousals.

I suspect the problem is defining the difference between a temporary arousal based on an event and lying in the bed 'awake'. If we are going to have a device approved by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine for the treatment of sleep apnea then the definition will have to be agreed by the AASM because they need to trust the data produced by the machine.

*I have no idea how Resmed determines when sleep begins...only how I would do it if I was tasked with programming such a feature.
