Working on cello's turns out to be almost as fun as playing them! I have been hanging around a forum that luthiers frequent and I am starting to think about trying my hand at making one! Now that is some crazy stuff.

Meantime I thought I would start by trying to replace the end piece (where the strings attach) on my cello with a better one - that was a real blast.

My blog post about it (complete with pictures of the process of disassembling my cello) are at: Me and My Cello

Of all the instruments I have attempted to learn, the cello is the one I wish I had tried. I love that deep sound. I've been listening to Yo-Yo Ma lately (the Appalachian Waltz album).

That is quite the undertaking you did! Congrats!

RE: Replaced my Cello's end piece -
Thank you, I have always loved the sound of Cello's. I love the fact my wife is supporting me in learning it in my retirement - you can too if you want to, it is not that expensive to rent a cello - most are around $40/mth or so. I gave up two online game subscriptions to pay for my initial rental - I think that was a fair trade - lol...
