ResMed Airsense 10 Auto - Humidifier
Greetings!

I am new to the forum and new to CPAP machines. My first CPAP machine is a ResMed Airsense 10 Auto. I have had the machine for two nights. So far, all is going well. My wife confirms that I am sleeping much better and no longer snoring. My sleep apnea is very severe. Things are so much better with the machine.

My question concerns the humidifier water tank. I filled it to the maximum level on the first night. After two nights the water level is down to about about two thirds capacity. Water droplets were forming in my full face mask at a setting of four. I reduced the setting to three and the droplet problem was solved.

What would happen if all of the water in the tank were consumed? Would the heat damage the empty water tank? Is there an auto shut off or fail safe for that eventuality? I can not find any relevant information in the supplied user manual.

Thank you. I have found the information on this site very informative.

Yes, there is a heat limit safety.....But.......I did run my S9 out of water a couple times, and even tho there is a heat limit it did get hot enough that I started to get a nasty burnt plastic smell coming into my mask that woke me up. No damage but it was a nasty odor that took awhile to get rid of, so best to make sure you don't run it out of water.....won't really hurt machine, but not a good experience regardless

From Airsense Clinical Manual:

Max heater plate temp......154 F
Cut out temp....................165 F

If anythiing bad happened because of this it would be the manufacturer's fault for bad design. It is perfectly predictable that many machines will be run out of water from time to time, and a machine that dies because of that is just a very bad design.

Actually I once ran my A10 autoset without water in the tank for a few nights in a row. Nothing much happened and the machine still runs just fine.

Hi foss,
WELCOME! to the forum.!
I try not to run my humidifier chamber dry, but I have done that a couple times in the past and when I did, I noticed a hot plastic smell.
Hang in there for more responses to your post and much success to you as you continue your CPAP therapy.

Thanks for the info! If plastic gets hot enough to cause an odor it is losing a little of its integrity. I will definitely ensure that there is enough water in the tank.

Instead of lowering your humidity, you might just make a sock for the tube. Yes, you can buy them readymade, but it's just as easy to go to a fabric store and buy some polar fleece, cut it, sew up (by hand if no sewing machine) and attach to your tube with rubber bands or ties.

I have run my water out at least once a week. It does put out a distinct odor when it happens but it's not that bad and goes away pretty quick once you fill the tank with water and run it again.
Using FlashAir W-03 SD card in machine. You can download your data through wifi with FlashPAP or Sleep Master utilities.

I wanted to learn Binary so I enrolled in Binary 101. I seemed to have missed the first four courses. Big Grinnie

Stick it to the man, Download OSCAR and take back control of your data!

Thanks Ian. Like I didn't have enough Honey-Do projects to tackle. Mornincoffee
