ResMed H5i heated humidifier - broken

ResMed H5i heated humidifier - broken
I went to clean my humidifier this morning as I do every morning, and when I was finished washing, drying and about to fill it - I realized that one side of the humidifier no longer had the little plastic knobs necessary for that side to close. How this happened I will probably never know as the only places the humidifier goes is into the cpap machine and when I clean it in the morning. I'm not eligible for a new one for another 3 months, so now I have to order one online and pay out of pocket. Has this humidifier ever broken for anyone else?

You are actually talking about the tabs that snap in place on the water tub to hold the tub together.
Yes, they break off from being flexed at the fold. I've never broken a tab because I don't disassemble daily.

If it were me, I would just buy a new tub. However, I think it's possible to use the tub with one tab missing. The H5i lid seal should put enough downward force to keep the tub lid in place.

Mongo ~ It isn't one of the four tabs that is missing. If you look at the clear top (the part that you lift off after you have released the four tabs) on one side you will see two little plastic protrusions on one side. It is these protrusions that give the tab something to grab onto, and it is these two little tabs that are missing. I agree, the humidifier probably will work w/o those little protrusions - it is just annoying to have it break.

Hmm. Odd place to break. It's so small and transparent that it could be anywhere.
Should still work however.

Yes, I agree. A new humidifier from Supplier #1 costs about $30 something plus $7 for shipping and handling. I'm going to push my luck and see if I can make the old one last a bit longer.

The humidifier chamber is relatively inexpensive. I use 2 of them in rotation so one is always fully dry and ready to use. I know you can probably get by, but I hope you will buy an extra chamber, so you have a standby when you get the new one through insurance. Supplier #1 actually sells the standard H5i chamber for only $18.99. Standard Water Chamber for H5i™ Heated Humidifier You were looking at the dishwasher safe model.

Hi GrammaBear,
I had one of the nubs break off of mine too, and I used it a couple weeks and it worked fine 'till I bought a new one.
If you do get the cheaper tub, just remember that it is really hard to open, not impossible, just a bit tricky.

Thank you Sleeprider and Trish. I ordered a new standard humidifier this morning, so now I will have one that works until I am eligible for one through insurance. Sleeprider - I'm glad you pointed out the difference in the two humidifiers. It will be handy to have a standby that is already dry and waiting for filling.
