ResMed OA vs CA detection and accuracy

Anyone know how accurate the ResMed devices are in detecting the difference between OA and CA?

Last night I was awoke one time by the "pulsing" it does. I then did a couple of tests while I was awake, where I held my breath for 10 seconds. One time it appeared to register a CA and the other an OA. So I'm wondering how it actually can detect accurately if you have your mouth closed. I also wear a dental appliance and wonder if that affects detection?

It detects whether or not you have your throat closed based on the flow rate into the extra space in your lungs. In that it is reasonably accurate. What it can't do is tell if you are asleep or not. And it's not sleep apnea, obstructive or central, if you aren't asleep.
