ResScan Data Download Problem

RE: ResScan Data Download Problem
ResScan 3.16 and, later, 3.16_SP1 have, and still do, run well on my Win 7 x64 machine, so I doubt that it is your operating system causing the problem. ResMed also says that its software runs on Win 7.

For all of you (mjholdeman, jacquesduff, jainujohn, svwilbur) needing help on this thread, lets take this from the top:

1. What operating system are you using?
2. Is your system up to date? Have you used Windows Update to make certain your version is current?
2. What version of ResScan are you attempting to install? The version is given in the file name you have downloaded.
3. Have you, in any previous installation attempts, told the ResScan software to install drivers (ANY drivers)?

The answers will provide a starting point for getting things straightened out and working.

Svwilbur, since you say that ResScan can see the card, but will not download the data, have you created a Patient in ResScan, using your information? ResScan may simply need a file into which to download data. And a quick answer to your questions: 1 - No; 2 - I don't know yet, and 3 - No.

RE: ResScan Data Download Problem
1) On my desktop I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit on a quad core intel.
2) yes it updates automatically, current as of 3/15/2012 latest security fix and only optionals left for languages.
3) ResScan is 3.16.018 the only one available on web from resMed
4) yes I did install USB driver first and then tried the rest and have since uninstalled all and ResScan and re-downloaded it rebooted and re installed it. All still gets same errors.

I never said ResScan sees the card. I said I can see the card with Windows Explorer and it sees the folders and files on the SD card.

I also took the same installer and installed it just now on a windows7 laptop and it installed just fine and runs kind of oddly. It would pop up new patient windows and I could stretch them or go full screen but it did not have an OK or submit button so you could fill it out but not make it take. Several different windows acted this way. Basically with the SDcard inserted it auto detects it and pops up a Quick Start "Device Detected - S9 AutSet window and it lets you search or Create Patient. But it has no SUBMIT or OK button at the bottom. and on the right top it says "You may leave all fields bla" and the rest is off the screen. If you make it not full screen it is not a scrollable window.
You have to X out of that. You can use it to search and find a already defined patient but you can not select it and continue. You have to X out and then do a download.

If you do the download then it has you Create a patient, Open a Patient or No Patient. If I already have one created and do open I can click on my patient but the button on the bottom right is off the window except for the left edge of it. I can click it and it seems to take it. Not sure what the button is, presumably and OK or Submit or something. You can stretch that window but the button stretches with it.

The download window is correct and lets you select all and on the bottom it has "Start Download" and "Close" and they fit the window. This is very odd stuff.

I use this laptop for everything at work and it never has this type of issue. Have never seen anything like this in the 35 years I have been working on computers as my career. Just bad programming or bad QA.

So I was finally able to get it to run well enough to get a New patient defined and then did a download. It saw my card immediately using the same reader as before and it read in the data and I could see the graphs and all.

So it works on "Windows7 Enterprise 64-bit" laptop. Still does not work on my desktop which is "Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 32-bit"

Well at least one works. kinda.

Off-topic a bit, but you can download previous versions of ResScan... simply change the URL that healthcareworker gave you in the email... (in the link at the end of the web address)...

In other words if the link ended in ResScan3.16.htm, simply change it to ResScan3.14.htm or ResScan3.13.htm, etc. The old versions should still be available using this method.

RE: ResScan Data Download Problem
That does not work anymore. I just tried it.

There is no 3.12, 3.13, 3.14, 3.15, 3.17, 3.18, 3.20 or whatever on the web. I was just trying to change the URL where it has the 3.16 to another version and those all came up as not found.

Wow, they must have changed that in the last couple of days... I downloaded ver 3.14 a few days ago using this method... now it no longer works.

Hmm... sure hope they don't create further restrictions on downloading ResScan (for us mere mortals). Thinking-about

As of two days ago, I downloaded from ResMed the following file: 31302_ResScan_3.16_SP1.exe. Are you saying that they no longer have the SP1 version of the file? It was the only file available when I accessed it. What is the name of the file you downloaded?

If you have been using computers for 35 years, I assume you are familiar with file verification via a hash. I suggest that you re-download the file from ResMed, see if you can get the above SP1 version of 3.16.018, and then confirm its hash with any of the following:

MD5 -- 1116cfec4fcfcd50c8e4e8b7577510f8
SHA1 -- b439a646f6897d972bca9e96e812f79757f992d5
CRC32 -- de9fbd23

There is a recent thread titled Hash for ResScan 3.16_SP1 with more on the above. Unfortunately, while I can find the link, I can't seem to be able to correctly include it in this post.

I don't know about Vista, it was buggy from the start. I was only too glad to get through with it, and only used it briefly because my then laptop only came in that flavor, and I couldn't get drivers for XP. Was an early, and all too happy, user of Win7. Like you, I currently use Win 7x64 Enterprise.

I am concerned about the drivers, because I don't know which ones were installed, and I suspect you will have to manually delete them (ResScan probably doesn't do that on an uninstall). I also don't know if they are necessary for Vista.

RE: ResScan Data Download Problem
I downloaded it 3 different times yesterday and saved to 3 different files:
31302_ResScan_3.16_SP1.exe
31302_ResScan_3.16_SP1_bad.exe
31302_ResScan_3.16_SP1 (1).exe

They all had the same size and all had the same issues and all check out with the same Hash so are identical to each other and also match your Hash above so same as what you loaded. So either something is wrong with my Vista desktop or this application is not real compatible with Vista as there are others on this board with the same issues with it ASSERTing at load time and then failing to download data.

And when I install this same .exe on Windows7 it installs, does not get the ASSERT at startup time and downloads the data from the SDcard. But even on my Windows7 I have other problems with it not properly handling the pop-up windows and I am ofter unable to enter the data and find a OK or SUBMIT key to press. Just kinda buggy code.

RE: ResScan Data Download Problem
I am at a loss as to why it won't run properly on your laptop. I have both installed/uninstalled the first 3.16, then done the same with the version you are using. Each worked without a hitch, first time, every time. And we are using the exact same OS, Win7x64 Enterprise.

One last thought. Do you have a good registry cleaner you have a comfortable history with? If so, and if you have not already done so, try an uninstall on the laptop, first clean with the registry cleaner's automatic function, then do a search for all words you can think of which relate, such as resmed and resscan, and delete everything bearing those names - the keys, values, etc.. Reinstall, w/o adding drivers, and see what happens.

Edit: FYI - I just searched on those two words alone on my system which has the program installed and had 145 hits.

Thanks for the help JumpStart.

1. I'm running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit
2. My system is up to date.
2b. I'm trying to install 3.16 but I tried 3.14 and got the same problems.
3. I have tried installing before and I *may* have driver junk leftover. I guess I need to scour the registry but I'm not sure how.

Thanks again.

svwilber is right, changing the version on the link doesn't work. They apparently buried them better. I was able to find the other versions, but I don't want to post the links so not to irritate ResMed. SuperSleeper, since you seem to be the keeper of the links, let me know if you want me to email them to you.
