ResScan vs. SleepyHead - pros & cons?

For those of you who have used both the ResScan and SleepyHead CPAP data-reporting software programs, can you briefly describe the pros and cons of each?

To use both software one have to be an S9 user. I have only used ResScan and don,t find the need to use SH. I think SH might be more useful to PRS1 users as the software is free and more informative than Encore viewer PRO or Onkar and may be the Icon and IntelliPAP as well.

I use both ResScan and Sleepy Head. I find that ResScan is a little easier to use but then I started with ResScan and tried Sleepy Head. Sleepy Head charts the mask pressure and I don't think that ResScan does. Mask Pressure is important if you're looking at your leak data. ResScan allows you to email a report which is a feature that SH does not have. I have access to a color laser printer at work which I prefer to use for the report.

I use both too and I like that I can email my report to my sister, a sleep tech, and get her feedback.

I use both ResScan and Sleepyhead. Most of the things you can do on one, you can also do on the other. I'm assuming most people on this forum are already familiar with what the ResScan software is capable of doing so I'll focus more on what capabilities Sleepyhead has and probably the easiest way to do that is to show you some of my graphs.

First, here is a screen shot of the Daily View tab:

This is only a partial view as Sleepyhead provides graphs for quite a bit of data that the ResScan software doesn't provide such as Mask Pressure, Respiratory Rate and Tidal Volume.

Next, here is a screen shot of the Overview tab:

Again, this is only a partial view as Sleepyhead again provides additional graphs for Respiratory Rate, Tidal Volume, Inspiratory Time and Expiratory Time and a few other measures.

Finally, here is a screen shot of the Statistics page:

The statistics page is nice because it can show you useful information on trends for last night, last 7 days, last 30 days, last 6 months and last year in a nice simple format. Below those measures, you'll see it also has information on Rx settings and results produced under each setting and identifies the best and worst Rx settings. This is also captured in the Records section on the right border of the tab.

I'd say if you're happy with ResScan, then stay with ResScan. Sleepyhead provides more data but whether you find that extra data useful or not is a personal thing. One thing I experienced for almost 2 weeks on ResScan was that my maximum leak rates that were being graphed on the ResScan Overview tab didn't agree with the maximum leak rate data graphed on the Daily Detailed Graphs (whereas Sleepyhead was graphing the maximum leak rates for this same time period correctly) . ResScan seemed to be defaulting to the maximum acceptable leak rate of 24.0 l/min. My ResScan software apparently had a bug, but I had nobody to go to to resolve it. I've never figured out what caused that bug and for the past few days, it appears to be graphing the maximum leak rates correctly again.

Understand that Sleepyhead is a work in progress and is still in beta form. Jedimark who contributes to this forum is the brains behind Sleepyhead and whenever a bug is discovered, he is very quick and responsive in resolving it. So that's something that is nice to have on your side if you start experiencing bugs/issues.

SH is free and isn't an ugly install like some other programs.

Here's an example of another neat feature with Sleepyhead. The picture below shows a daily detail graph and I have hit the events tab on the left and it lists my AH events. If you click on the event, in this case I clicked on OA event 001, the top graph remains on the same scale but highlights an area around that event. All of the remaining graphs below the Event Flags graph zoom into a smaller time frame window (that you can adjust with the view slider in the lower left), with the event time centered. Note the difference between the time scale below the top graph and the ones below it. This allows you to easily see what was going on immediately before and after the event. Again, there are more graphs available than what is pictured here if you were to scroll down the page. With ResScan, you can perform a similar task but it is much more cumbersome to perform. This navigation tool works very quickly and easily.
