Resmed Mask settings

Resmed Mask settings
My Resmed AS10 can be told the type of mask in use, the settings being Nasal, Pillow and Full Face.

Does anyone know what the system does with these settings. All I can think of is that it might be an input to the algorithm that decides what constitutes a large leak.

RE: Resmed Mask settings
Partly, but also the through-put flow in order to purge the internal volume likely for someone using a given style of mask.  As we exhale, we fill the void under the mask with exhaust air, and that should be handily flushed clear prior to the next inhalation.

RE: Resmed Mask settings
The pressure drop in the mask is proportional to the airflow and the resistance of the mask. This is also true for the hose (and bacterial filter if used).

If no air is flowing, then the delivered therapy pressure is the same as the pressure measured in the machine. If air is flowing though, then the machine has to compensate for the pressure drops.

Volume has already been mentioned, and there’s also the designed leak rate.

Ideally, there would be separate controls for the leak rate, volume, and flow restriction, but that would probably be too complicated (even though the data is in mask user guides). So, they simplify it to three broad categories for ResMed, or 5 obfuscated levels for Respironics.
