Resmed malfunction

Resmed malfunction
My resmed Airsense S10 Autoset with heated humidifier made a sharp noise and stopped functioning entirely. It was bought in Nov 2015. I contacted the shop. I am wondering if this life span is normal or unusual?

No, it's unusual. These machines have a two year warranty in the US and a three year warranty in Australia (if a member of the Resmed Sleepvantage users' club, which everybody is automatically signed up for). They wouldn't offer a three year warranty unless they expect the MTBF to greatly exceed that.

Depending on the nature of the "sharp noise" you should probably receive a replacement machine (or perhaps a new power supply).

Thanks for the info. I could not recall the duration of the warranty and thought it was only one year. I bought it in the US, from a supplier I trust. I wrote them about it today. Fingers crossed they will replace it.

If you hear a sharp snap, it usually is either a direct short or a blown capacitor. You might want to check your power supply with a voltmeter if you have one. But, the best thing is to talk to your dme ... ResMed is great at honoring warrantees.

I have been offered a refurbished unit as replacement. I was told this is usual. I never encountered this, but assume this is standard in this case?

RE: Resmed malfunction
At least you will be made whole with a refurbished unit. It might be interesting to check the run hours. I have run machines oer 19000 hours, so I'd say that was way below expectations.

RE: Resmed malfunction
I am only getting 90 days instead of 2 years warranty on it.

Why? Resmed offers a two year warranty on new products. Did you buy it new or used? Through an accredited dealer or "alternative" channels? If you bought it new through an accredited outlet you should get a full two year warranty.

RE: Resmed malfunction
You have two choices - accept a low usage refurbished unit or ask for the information to have YOUR unit repaired under warranty repair with Resmed. You have almost 2 years usage out of a machine that should last 15,000 hours. I'd want the warranty repair personally unless they were willing to extend the warranty on the refurbished to 6 month or 1 year.
