SD Cards - backup [SOLVED] Post 11

RE: SD Cards - backup [SOLVED] Post 11
NO!!!! Do not delete OSCAR. Did you specify the data location during the import operation after turning off this option? If not, you need to do this. Before you start OSCAR, what is your new SD card's system name? That is the one you will need to use for importing.

RE: SD Cards - backup [SOLVED] Post 11
Bill,

Go back to this post http://www.apneaboard.com/forums/Thread-...#pid460609

What seems to be happening is that every time you change the SD card name OSCAR is looking to import data from the old SD card.  You will need to tell OSCAR where to find the new card (the above post).  Your previous card was ResMed_II, and before that NO_NAME or NO NAME (I think).  You will need to use Finder to check the new name for the SD card.
The actual preference file for this is hidden in your ~/Library Scratch that, I read the plist too fast.
But it's easier just to click "Specify" as mentioned in that previous post.

It will still be /Volumes/<card name> but with the new SD card name.

I think I did it correctly.  When I followed your comments in the last message.. I went to the sidebar and the SD card was highlighted which showed NONAME.. That is the new SD card.
There may be another step I missed.. I'm the polar opposite of a nerd.. a true computer dummy.  Thanks for hanging in with me.
The two photo grabs I posted is what I see in that location.

Bill,

Since you and I both posted at the same time I'm not sure if you were responding to me or to Red.....

Hi again, Jeff..
Finder shows the new card as NO NAME (not sure if I can give it a name or if it's important)
I'll look to see about the ~/Library.. but this is greek to me.

Ok.

~/Library was a different preference file for OSCAR and did not contain the SD card import location. It's recommended not to to edit that file manually.

Renaming the SD card is your choice. Only difference would be that "rsync" command I posted previously. macOS command line utilities do not like spaces in the names, but there is an easy enough way around that.

Code:
rsync -avz -P /Volumes/NO\ NAME/ ~/Desktop/test/

To rename:
  • Insert the SD card into your Mac
  • Open Finder
  • In the left pane of Finder, right click on the SD card and select "Rename" and enter the new name
  • Hit Enter (return key)
Other steps:
With a new SD card name you will need to tell OSCAR where to find the SD card again
  • Open OSCAR
  • After clicking the "Import" icon in OSCAR select "Specify"
  • In the Finder window that opens select the new SD card name in the left pane (do not select any files or folders in the right pane)
  • Click "Open"
That should keep you going until the next time your Dr/DME swaps your card out.

Something else you may want to consider...
Get a second SD card and just copy your data to the spare when you need to see the Dr/DME.  Since you wanted to keep a copy of your SD card data on your Desktop, it makes this even easier.  This way you always keep the original card for yourself and they get the copy.  You wouldn't need to worry about renaming your SD card.  Any SD card from 2GB to 32GB will work fine.  Keep the new one for yourself and use the other to swap out with the Dr/DME when needed.

The rename went as expected..
However, the next part did not.
When I open OSCAR, I am not getting  this box..

NOTE:  I ejected the SD Card and rebooted the computer.. Still the same.. I don't get the popup that allows me to select..
All I get as the 2nd thumbnail that flashes by.

Everything I see is still the data off the old SD Card
