SPO2 report interpretation
Hi All,

I'm new to this board, not new to sleep apnea though.
Can I ask - my Contec CMS50 report - can someone walk me through the numbers? I have not used this watch in years and thought my apnea was now mild but I am worried that is is not..
Many thanks
John

RE: SPO2 report interpretation
What type of CPAP machine are you using?

Your oximeter does not detect apnea, only drops in O2. Those O2 drops can be caused by apnea or other health issues.

88 is the point they would start worrying about. You have a FEW spikes that low but nothing to worry about. Those are brief and can be caused by the sensor losing contact for a couple seconds.

Again, I don’t see any problems with your O2.

RE: SPO2 report interpretation
Thanks for those comments - however the AHI number of 29 is classified as "moderate" and once it reaches 30 this is severe?

The software I am using classes any drop of 4% or more as an "event" and any breathing stop of 10s as an event, I think..

Although I am not sure how the software knows I am not breathing??? Is this from the dropping SPO2 numbers?
appreciate any comments

RE: SPO2 report interpretation
If you are referring to the 29.3 next to "Index", that is not your AHI (Apnea Hypopnea Index).  It's showing how many O2 de-saturation events you averaged per hour for the period recorded (sometimes called Oxygen De-saturation Index, or ODI).  That 4% drop for 10 seconds.
That number will likely be quite different every day.

I would suggest you discuss these concerns with your Dr.  They may order a sleep test, or other tests to rule out other health conditions that can cause desaturations.  Your O2 numbers don't look too bad but you would need to compare it over a longer period of time (several days or more) to see what's normal for you.  That one night may have just been an oddity.

Interpretation of graphs
Hello there, I am using a Contec watch and O2 ring for watching my sleeping.
Please can someone describe the sequence of events wrt pulse and SPO2, as the SPO2 drops, what happens to PR and what is happening when SPO2 is "seesawing up and down etc etc..

Is there a doc with pics and a decent description?
thanks for any comments.

Oscar is a great viewing tool, but Id like to know better how to interpret the data...
cheers, John

RE: SPO2 report interpretation
JohnAT,
I have merged your latest post with your original thread on same subject.

Please re-read Jeff8356's post above as he's explained the Oxygen De-saturation Index
(ODI).

You can't really diagnose Sleep Apnea from a O2 report, but gives a good indication if there's an issue with your oxygen levels. You may very well have SA. The best thing to do is talk to your doctor and/or schedule a sleep test, or see if your insurance will cover an at home test. This may give you more definitive answers.
