Should I get a new Sleep Study done?

Should I get a new Sleep Study done?
It has been 5 years since my last sleep study.

I monitor my results every day.

ResMed S8 Autoset II running in CPAP mode at 9cm H2O

Using the ResScan Software my results are always <5 AHI

Typically AHI runs 4 -5.
Events 2 or 3 AI's per night

I feel fine. No sleep deprived symptoms.

Is it worth the time and cost going thru the whole sleep study procedure again?

My understanding is <5 AHI is normal sleep breathing.

What would you do?

i would touch base with the doc if you haven't seen him for a while to see if he has any concerns.

A second sleep study is only really needed if you are having problems.

HOWEVER, it is always a good idea to touch base with the doc. There's other things the doc can do to get a good picture of how you are doing. For example, wearing an oximeter over night.

If you've not seen the sleep doc in five years you really need to go back. There's some people who believe the AHI is not the best indicator of how well sleep apnea is being treated.

Good points.

I do feel fine but it might be worth it to check with the Doc.

I can print out the last 3 months of my Resscan reports for her to look at. Not sure if that is a good idea or not. But if she trusts the results I get out of another sleep study. I hate all the wires hooked up and trying to fall asleep.

Sleep studies are ghastly expensive. I sincerely doubt she will want to do another one.

But, yes, seeing your doc is a very good idea.

Which reminds me it's been a while since I've seen mine....

If you have personal changes, you might want to get another sleep study.

For instance, I had Bariatric surgery 15 months ago and lost approx. 125 lbs so a new study made sense for me.

Hi Tom
If insured...Definitely go for the sleep study and might get a new machine as the newer machine gives more data including CSA detection.
