Sick and tired of wait, expense and interference. So taking control

RE: Sick and tired of wait, expense and interference. So taking control
Yup, think most of us here agree that sleep clinics and specialists can't compare to the knowledge and advice on sleep apnea that this forum can give you. I got the Dreamstation from Amazon last month and it works great. But I would get the Resmed if I were to do it again. Nice post by the way.

Best of luck!

It might be tough to get your primary to write a script for a machine, but typically not a problem for supplies.  Now that you have a machine (and maybe you'll buy a new updated one from Amazon), you could always schedule a lab sleep study in future during a year where you've used up your deductible for other stuff.  Personally, I'm done with the sleep study folks for several years.  My doc will write annual scripts for supplies up until he retires, so no problem there. I got my backup machine from Offerup (zero hours!) which is a bit like Craigslist.

Hi Lee the Bee,
WELCOME! to the forum.! Dispite all the problems you have had with getting proper treatment, you are off to a fairly good start. Hopefully, when you get the hardware for looking at your data, you will really start to see how things are going.
It is great to hear that you have started taking control over your sleep problems.
I wish you good luck with CPAP therapy and also on your machine decision, whenever you can purchase one.
Keep us posted on how things go.

The machine is a ResMed S8 Autoset II. It has the Hi4 and a f&P Zest Nasal Mask.

H4i has a blinking light on it to indicate power being cycled to the humidifier.  Higher setting, the light blinks either longer or more frequently.
The S8 series requires a special data card and a card reader.  I believe you can only interface it with ResScan as it has the driver for the reader.  ( I could be wrong -- never tried Sleepyhead with my S8)
You may need an earlier version of ResScan -- they may have dropped the S8 from recent releases as it is 2 generations old.

Thanks. I did notice a blinking light on it.  I received my eBay card reader, but I was mistaken about a card being included. So... a few more days before I can get data.

I recommend you forego using sleep specialists and recruit your primary care doctor for prescriptions and other needs.

Thanks. I think he will write the RX if I bring him a report now.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic he will write a machine RX .

Most primary care docs are happy to do this. You may need to discuss your CPAP use and how you feel during office visits in order to document your continuing need and effectiveness, but it's pretty easy to do. Now that you have the sleep study, you should not need a specialist. Be sure to keep a safe copy of the study, recommendations and prescription in you personal files to avoid this in the future. My last study was in 2008, and I keep a digital copy of that which has been sufficient to obtain new machines and equipment since.

First Day of Data
I upgraded to an S9 so I finally have actual data.  Looks pretty good.

Looks great. The first chart in your series is the the one to use. Be sure to minimize the calendar by clicking the triangle on the left side of the date line, and turn off the pie chart in the Sleepyhead menu File/Preferences/Appearance and unclick the pie chart checkbox on the right side. That will expose the machine settings and other more relevant information.

From this, your AHI is very low and respiratory stats are all normal. Machine pressure is responding primarily to flow limitations. The leaks look like more than they are, and are inconsequential. I assume this is comfortable, so just keep going with no changes.

Thanks for the time saving tips. I pretty much opened the program and clicked around for 5 minutes this morning and grabbed screen shots. I was wondering what views to show. Yes I slept easily with no major issues.

The good thing about those graphs is that it shows, yes, you have Apnea so you don't have to wonder if you have something else bizarre and strange going on (well, you still could, but for sure you have apnea).

Now if only I could stop losing my SD card reader....
