And I know that your machine can’t do this, but I was having terrible problems with congestion until I 1) switched from Zyrtec to Xyzal 2) increased humidity to 6 ( I have a resmed autoset 10 for her) and 3) turned my tube temp up to 86. I have been feeling much better for the last two weeks.

If humidity is making it worse, are you sure that you don’t have some kind of mold in your tank?

No mould, I'm changing the water and cleaning the tank more regularly than I did on my old machine.

I've never heard of Xyzal, perhaps its not available over here.  I only have low or no humidity, I found that the higher the humidity, the worse the sinusitus became.  (but that was with the old machine) I have it low at times I get nosebleeds.

I'm desperate enough to try anything so I'll up the humidity and the tube and see how it goes.  I cant afford a new mask at the moment.

Thanks for your input!!

Yup. Xyzal is fairly new here too. It’s been available by prescription but now over the counter. Here is a link to see if it’s available for you. Maybe you can discuss it with a doctor.

Commercial Link Removed, instead google Xyzal.

One side effect is sleepiness so I take it before bed time.

I wish you the best.

Mold if it does grow, grows in the portion of the machine that you cant access, where the internal filter sits and where the pump is.

Mold can grow anywhere there is moisture. I have, on occasion, seen small colonies on he upper inside surfaces of my humidifier chamber. The hose is also a likely place, especially if you have rain out.  If I see it I clean with a mild detergent followed by hydrogen peroxide. Light scrubbing with a cotton swab may be necessary but it is easily removed.

You must have mold spores in your air, from walls etc.

You are correct, because mold spores are found everywhere. They are in the air we breath, in the dust that accumulates on surfaces in our homes, etc. Bread and other foods would never get moldy if mold spores weren't ubiquitous in the natural environment. Most are harmless. Very few are pathogenic.

Right! I was taking it for granted because I have an air purifier in my sleeproom specifically for pollen, spores, tabacco and outside gases. One time I went without cleaning the humidifier for a whole year, you can imagine the mineral build up formed sort of a cave inside, but mold never appeared. I guess being proactive paid off.
