Sleep Apnea and the law
#11
RE: Sleep Apnea and the law
I totally buy into that Archangle, I had a 'serious' balance problem a while back. I saw the 'Quack' as I couldn't stand up some days, he actually refused to diagnose Meniere's (All that really means is they don't know what it is anyway), he did treat me for it though!(Serc 8 as I recall), because as he said 'If I diagnose Meniere's you will have to surrender your driving Licence???'
It would have been 'Stupid' of me to drive anyway, so I hung up my keys and gave myself a self imposed 'Ban' (I only clocked 83 miles of travel on my motorcycle that year)
I had been 'signed off sick' for three months with 'Balance' problems when I received a letter stating that I had to attend a 'Government Medical' to check my eligibility to claim assistance. Well, I fell over getting the bus there and had to be 'Helped' into the doctors wating room as it was 'Spinning' (To me anyway?), the 'Exam' consisted of a questionaire and the result of that farce was I was deemed fit to work, basically as I could go to toilet unaided!! (Just my sarcasm creeping in here)
I didn't feel safe to walk about let alone drive, I really felt dejected at this point and 'Cashed in' a Pension I had been saving in just to meet my living expenses. Well, I did some research and decided BPPV might actually be the culprit (20% of people over 50 are going to have a balance problem anyway). I changed my diet, upped my fluid intake and tried the Epley Manouvre (I just love the internet) and it worked!, So all of the grief I suffered was probably caused by a few 'Disturbed' salt crystals floating about in my inner ear or Otoconia as it is called (Also called 'Ear Rocks').
Sorry to go off on one there, the thing is BPPV is a reportable condition as well, I don't trust doctors, but then I never did. I didn't drive because I didn't feel safe, not because I was told not to, I just wonder how many others would do the same.
There's an old saying that 'Being a Doctor is the only profession where you can bury your mistakes!', how do they sleep at night?
