On my sleep study report, one of the recommendations is to follow "appropriate sleep hygiene."
What the heck is "sleep hygiene??" (I would have asked my Dr but I didn't get a chance to actaully read the whole report until after I was home.)

Sleep Hygiene
OK, another newbie question...
On my sleep study report, one of the recommendations is to follow "appropriate sleep hygiene." What the heck is "sleep hygiene??" (I would have asked my Dr but I didn't get a chance to actaully read the whole report until after I was home.)

RE: Sleep Hygiene
Google that phrase and all sorts of stuff will come up.
Sleepy hygiene is common sense practices on getting a good night's sleep. For example: No caffeine x hrs before sleep Nothing in bed but sex and sleep; no reading in bed, no watching television in bed,etc

RE: Sleep Hygiene
Thank you... I had visions of washing your sheets in some kind of special way or something.
Zonk - That was a very helpful thread. The only thing there that was a suprise was to get up if you lay awake for more than 30 minutes. I don't know how many hours I have just laid there watching the clock.

Remo- I used to think all there was to Xpap therapy was to be 100% compliant. I now know that unless you are getting good, restfull sleep you likely won't start feeling better with therapy. You have to get good restorative sleep. So sleep hygiene is very simple and completely necessary to your success.
I have to be active enough during the day so that I'm tired when I go to bed. How well are you sleeping? Good luck, Remo. Mary

My second night, with CPAP, my REM was about 15% I have always (as long as I can remember) awakend for no apparent reason at least 3 - 4 times a night, and that continues with CPAP. As a result of that, my Dr on Monday increased my Requip rx from 0.25 to 0.5 mg to see if that helps. It has only been 3 nights since then, but so far no improvement. In addition to that, now I awaken wtih air leaks. Mrs remo gets anoyed by the sound and wakes me up telling me to "fix it." After 3 - weeks of that she bought a pair of earplugs and I am no longer getting bruised every night. But when I roll over in my sleep a new leak is created and that will wake me up. Quote:Try not to use the computer before bed, as the light of the monitor (so called Blue Light) has been shown to affect the sleep patterns if used shortly before bed time, I'm using a software called F.lux which changes the monitor color at sundown and sunrise. It is supposed to help with internal clocks but mine's busted. However, I do like the softer light at night.
