Sleep Study price range

RE: Sleep Study price range
Can you please tell me what's the cost of a Sleep Study ?

I had one done this year in New Mexico USA. I didn't sleep enough for a split study so I had a second titration study. The billing to insurance was 3600 USD for each night, 7200 USD total. This does not include follow-up visits, but it does include a consultation with tech for mask problems. The latter, which was extremely helpful, was separate from services of the DME.

The sleep center I went to here in Mesa AZ charged my insurance 3800 for a split night study. The insurance allowed only $735 and that is what I paid ( high deductible). You can google sleep center in mesa and you'll find where I went. Would wonder if they would negotiate a cash price with you. Good luck!

The sleep center charged my wife's insurance company $1500.00 for a sleep study.

Add to that was the $40.00 copay to the doctor for the results. Huhsign

As a private patient I paid $600 for a titration sleep study in Bogota, Colombia. Plus $100 for a consultation (June 2012).
I slept in a private room in a setup comparable to the one in the Palo Alto Medical Foundation in California (PAMF).
The sleep study report was more detailed than at PAMF and identical to a sleep study report at Stanford Sleep Disorders Clinic.

I'll try to answer based on my experiences. I live in Phoenix AZ too.

Being able to answer your question properly requires knowing details about your insurance coverage. So I'll give you some generic ideas that may or may not apply.

Say for instance you have a HDHP. You can call your insurance and ask them what their contracted rate is with each place. They may or may not tell you. You can also call each sleep center and ask them what their contracted rate is with your health plan. They may be more willing to tell you. You may not realize that insurance companies negotiate rates with each provider, meaning different sleep centers, even in the same city, will have different rates with the same insurance company.

As others have suggested, consider an in-home study. It will be less expensive.

You might contact sleep clinics and ask them for a cash price paid at time of service. This is likely to be the least expensive option. You may be able to submit your receipts to the insurance company yourself for reimbursement afterwards. It depends on your insurance company's rules. If you have a HDHP, then the $$ you pay will simply go towards your deductible.

I have a HDHP, and coworkers have had good results calling labs and MRI centers, etc., and requesting a cash price. They are often willing to negotiate. A friend got a bone density scan for $70. She then submitted the receipt to insurance and they paid down her deductible.

In my experience, one place that will not work with most private-pay or HDHP patients is brick-and-mortar DMEs. They are going to extract as much $$ as they can from as many as they can, and they won't usually provide prices over the phone except full retail prices.

I live in NJ and my insurance was billed a bit over $5,000. I believe they paid around $3,200 and I owed a very small copay

I had my initial appontment with the sleep Specialist at The Prince Charles Hospital Sleep Disorders Clinic in Brisbane and two overnight sleep studies all billed to Medicare (Australia), with no out of pocket expenses except for the cost of my cpap machine which I bought online from the US. I have another appointment with the Specialist in November which will also be billed to Medicare.
