Setting up the Resmed S9 Auto for the AirFit N10 nasal mask

Setting up the Resmed S9 Auto for the AirFit N10 nasal mask
I believe I may have found a solution to ongoing mask wars by picking up a wide cushion for the ResMed AirFit N10 nasal mask that was originally delivered with a medium cushion. The N10 medium was was better than any of the other masks I've tried to date, but I've still not made it through the night even with the N10-Medium. Curiously, ResMed appears to advise selecting the "Pillows" for mask type on the the Autoset when using the N10 Nasal mask, if I am interpreting the ResMed Mask/Device Compatibility List document correctly.

Now I'm more than a little curious about what airflow and delivery effects the various Mask Settings on the machine control, and why pillows settings are recommended for some nasal masks.

Thanks in advance,

~ Doc

RE: Setting up the Resmed S9 Auto for the AirFit N10 nasal mask
The mask settings on the S9 tell the machine what pressure drop to expect at the mask (fact). Knowing this and the hose type allows the machine to control the pressure the machine puts out so that the patient receives the required pressure at the mask (fact). Some nasal masks may have more pressure drop than others and be closer to nasal pillows pressure drop but that is just my opinion.
