Slingbox Question
We are looking at slingbox as a possible solution to the problem of me not being able to watch the Astros games in my home. The suburb of Houston in which I live doesn't have a cable provider that carries Root Sports, the broadcaster for Astros baseball, but the suburb in which my daughter lives does, and she's a subscriber.

So we were wondering what it would take for me to be able to use the Slingbox app on my Fire TV to watch the Root Sports channel. She would need to have a slingbox connected at her house, right? And would she have to tune her TV to the Root Sports channel? That doesn't seem right but what we're reading seems to indicate that that's the case.

Can anybody help us figure this out?

RE: Slingbox Question
Sleepster, you might be able to use the Xfinity1 TV app and do it free. You would have to sign in on her account to stream content like that, assuming it is allowed for streaming in real time. I have Xfinity and can use the app for a lot of live TV when away from home; but not all programs are available.

RE: Slingbox Question
Yes, the TV needs to be set to the channel you want to watch remotely.

it is more involved tho. i have one connected to my Tivo so i can change channels remotely. but the tivo must be “displaying” the channel you want.

i watched my shows while in Ecuador for 2 weeks and it worked well.

RE: Slingbox Question
The Wikipedia article on it says it was created for the exact purpose of watching MLB while away.
Seems like MLB wouldn't be happy about what is essentially a retransmission.
I wonder if it works on newer Slingboxes?

BTW -- the newer boxes have a remote to control what channel the source is on.
