Sore nasal opening

RE: Sore nasal opening
Instead of olive oil I rub nipple cream with lanolin in my nose with a Qtip. Nipple cream is used by breastfeeding women when their nipples get sore. You can find nipple cream in pharmacies and suppermarket on the baby isle.

Hmm... I think if I'm going to try that stuff, I'll have my wife buy it for me... can't see myself standing in line a the local Walgreen's putting that stuff on the checkout counter in front of everybody... Confused

"Nipple cream" 3 times in a two line post? I'm thinking someone just likes to say nipple cream. Laugh-a-lot

RE: Sore nasal opening
one-eye I have had several different machines and masks in the 18 months I have been on a cpap. Currently I am using the Swift LT nasal pillows and I had 2 problems. First a bloody nose, and second was sore nose from the pressure. The DME gave me the medium pillow to begin with and it felt like I could not get enough air so I went to the large and that was my problem. Finally went back to the medium and the internal soreness and bleeding were immediately gone.

The second problem was the nose soreness (External). My solution was to put the mask on in front of a mirror to do the adjustment. If the pillow is pulled up to tight against your nose it will be sore in the morning so make sure u have some play between the large area that goes into ur nose and the base of the tube from where it attaches to the head gear. Adjust ur straps accordingly. Last but not least if u run the tube back over ur head it tends to pull the pillows up and the base into the end of ur nose and it will be sore. I quit doing that and all of the soreness is gone and has been that way for several months.

Everyone has to find what works for your personal preference.

BTW sorry for the U = you and UR = your, I spend a lot of time on Ham radio doing finger talk (CW) but also SSB.

Good Luck

Okay, since I don't know where you are, I'm not really sure if I should answer your DX CQ... you might be just a few miles from me and if I key the mic I might stomp over a true DX station that you've just been dying to add to your list... Okay, now I'm going to have to start a ham thread in our Off-Topic Forum... (can't resist) Click here to go to that thread... and I expect you to check into the "net" over there, okay KS4? Too-funny So look out for that thread in the Off-Topic forum.

I know we have members here who are ham radio operators, PaulaO2 is one...

... okay, I promise not to get any more off-topic on this thread and will post ham radio stuff where it belongs in the Off-Topic forum... sometimes, I just can't help myself... Apology-2

Question
RE: Sore nasal opening
I have the new hybrid (?) nasal mask, a heated humidifier Respiratrol (?) CPAP....and incredibly, incredibly sore , raw nasal openings and sores inside my nose. Not top be gross, but the sores are crusty, itchy, and really sting!  I have tried vaseline, hydrocortisone, vitamin e, aloe vera (plant leaf), baby oil, chapstick, Burt's Bees lip balm, lanolin, and lidocaine.......HELP!!  It's almost as if I have ulcers inside my nose...and now it feels as if it's creeping up more toward the tip/bridge/center of my nasal openings. They itch so much, I pick the crusties off, and make it worse....could I be allergic to the mask, which does not touch my nose?

RE: Sore nasal opening
Unless you are having an allergic reaction to your mask, what you are describing doesn’t sound like the occasional soreness that some get using nasal pillows.

I would see an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist and get treated.

RE: Sore nasal opening
I never thought of an ENT! I thought only of going back to the sleep lab. I'm trying Neosporin with aloe tonight in case of infection. Thanks for the suggestion. I also pulled apart everything, and washed thoroughly, filters too.
