Spider Webs
Our pool cage seems to attract the 8-legged freaks. This one web I spied today was very interesting. This guy/gal/it/freak spun a web with a floor to keep itself up off the wet chair rail of the pool cage. It appears to serve another function and that the dead carcasses fall through and keeps the floor clean. Smart spider?

I included links to the larger version of the pictures.

RE: Spider Webs
Interesting pictures and who would have thought spiders were so clever. Hopefully no one in your family is scared of spiders?

RE: Spider Webs
I look at it this way, if they stay outside the house I let them be. They eat lots of bugs, cockroaches, small children. If the larger ones come inside it is game on! They're not venomous just big and ugly. I don't want to be lying in bed attached to a hose and have one of those crawl on me. Hose, machine and hanger will be on the floor.

I'm more likely to run into a pygmy rattler than a venomous spider. A Pygmy is a mean mother. Found one on the lanai next to the pool. Tried to "shoo" it out the screen door and it coiled up on me. started rattling his tail. Grabbed the only thing I could find that was long enough, a pool noodle, and start waving it at it's face. It bit the noodle. Hung on to it. Which worked out well as I was able to carry it out the screen and fling it into the woods.

RE: Spider Webs
I've had thoughts of a spider crawling inside my cpap hose during the day; then shooting into my mask when I turn on the blower.
Hmm... maybe I should be using DDT in my tank.

RE: Spider Webs
I am petrified of spiders.
I have seem some hugh webs, but nothing like your photo.
Those critters are intelligent. If I see one in the house, it comes at me because it "knows" I'm afraid. Shock-2

Though I think it could use a laser level. That would never pass code.

I wondered about that.. and I was watching. He was probably maneuvering for death-from-above airborne style.
