Stimulus Package

Stimulus Package
Does a couple making $150,000 a year really need a $2,400 payment from the government? I'm all for getting some cash to those who really need it but...... Oh-jeez

RE: Stimulus Package
I agree as well. My wife and I bring in a lot less than that, and any amount we do receive, will be greatly appreciated.

She's on SS only and I have a government pension.

RE: Stimulus Package
What people don't realize is that if you give everyone money that is created out of thin air (by the Federal Reserve), all it will do in the long run is stimulate more spending and then prices rise.  This makes the cost of living higher for everyone so that there is no real benefit to the citizens.

Those who know basic macroeconomics understand this fact.  So the net effect in the long term is actually worse--  you're in the same predicament as before and if the central banks keep "printing" more money (ie, creating digital dollars out of thin air), we will eventually have hyperinflation that cannot be reversed and will eventually lead to economic collapse.  Ask 1930's Germany, 2007 Zimbabwe, 2001 Argentina or 2019 Venezuela how that worked out for them.

Of course, handing out money to everyone will make people feel good, and provide a degree of temporary relief, but the long term effects are actually worse than if nothing were done, and could, if continued over time, destroy an economy.

But these cash payments to households is not the real danger, as it's a drop in the bucket compared to the massive amounts of cash the Federal Reserve is injecting into the economy to address liquidity via payments to banks and financial institutions.  All that money goes somewhere, and it will increase prices overall for just about everything... stocks, food, consumer items, equipment, cars, labor costs & a plethora of other things.

They call it "Quantitative Easing"... which is simply a fancy term for injecting cash into the system.  It will not help at all and will make things worse, not better.

But, it will make the masses "feel" like the government is "doing something to help people".

Just keep watching the prices of items you use over the next several months.  You'll find out soon enough.

RE: Stimulus Package
But the Gov has to do something. It must help the Sheeple. It won't help in the end. Even the poor like me, I get $1,254 per month on SSDI/Disability, and upon receipt of the $1,200, I will still be poor. I'm in "great" company though, the Gov is poor, far beyond bankrupt actually. So let's create/print/whatever more money and give stuff away. I could use the money, but I don't like Big Gov creating money we don't have to give to most everyone. That's why I don't like the Bernie Sanders' of the world. NOTHING is free. USA is/was a republic not a socialist based government.

RE: Stimulus Package
I agree, it's a temporary fix. But.....something has / needs to be done in the short term. No telling just how long this will continue.

Myself, from what I have seen and heard, it's not going to be just a matter of a couple more weeks. It's going to be more like a couple of more months.

RE: Stimulus Package
I agree that something likely has to be done.

However, destroying the economy via hyperinflation during a time when the economy is fragile like this is beyond reasonable.

The measly $1200 or whatever each person will get is really not the major problem.  If that were the only thing going on, it would not destroy the economy.    I understand why people want to do that, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to what else Congress & Federal Reserve is doing.

Even if every single person living in the U.S. would get $1200, that's still only $394 billion (US), which is less than 20% of the overall $2 trillion (US) in this congressional spending bill.  That, plus the additional $1.5 trillion that the Federal Reserve injected into the economy this week (not to mention the previous injections prior to coronavirus) and we're screwed as far as hyperinflation being a sure thing now.

The Federal Reserve System can only do two things:  raise or lower interest rates (or "print" money, which is really the same thing).  They have already lowered the effective interest rates to near zero now.  They have no more ammo in their arsenal, other than inflating their way out of this mess.

It's a certainty that this is not the only stimulus package we're going to get, nor will it be the last cash injection by the Fed.  Each of these steps leads to the necessity of creating a larger cash injection in the future.  Each one builds upon itself so that in order to keep the economy afloat, you must inflate, inflate, inflate.  No choice once you're this far into it.

Fiat money is debt.  Unless folks understand that concept, they're not going to understand anything I'm saying.

Like I said, just wait for a few months and you'll see.   Eat-popcorn

For more reference, read the famous book  "The Creature from Jekyll Island" by G. Edward Griffin.  He's got some videos on YouTube also.
